BIB: Yes, yes I know it's far too early for a Thread title nom, but...if the cap fits 🤷🏼‍♀️🤭.

In other news, we've been going through the family photos at my mum's house. My mum was a real stunner in her day and she always dressed really well. Or so I thought. Oh, mummy...🤣😭

But those are espadrilles, they should have ‘ribbon’ ties! Like we’re not gunning for Misty Copeland’s pointe shoes, now are we. Context is important!

Those are iconic tie espadrilles. Very chic. Classic resort wear, your mum was everything in those shoes.

I don't mind at all that Alice has a 'quirky' 'out there' 'unique' fashion sense. I actually prefer, even admire, that someone is distinctively themselves, rather than a sheep-like copier of the latest fashion trends. Even when I don't like or wouldn't wear their choices myself. There's nothing intrinsically morally reprehensible about dressing contrary to generic tastes or styling norms (inappropriate public skimpiness aside).

I'm very glad there's no general public commentary on how I look or what I wear, I'd be absolutely crucified 😬😆.

Alice is always interesting - an asset she could use for good, if she wanted to, and was prepared to do the hard personal work to get there.
I don't mind individual style but the stress being on the word "style" which is something Alice can't pull off. To describe her as quirky is too kind, she looks like tit most of the time. A Helene Bonham Carter or even a Tilda Swinton or Iris Apfel (think big glasses and statement necklace) she is not.

I think those hideous purses she "made" way back when that really encapsulates her "fashion" sense, which is that of a drunken coke head who can't edit her own self because she's dumb.

An important part of any outfit, even a casual one, is the silhouette created. Any body type can benefit from the right pieces matched together, though it's different on everyone. Henny Malice's clothing is always ill-fitting and never the right cut for her. It's the same issue with her hair that we always talk about - a fuller hairstyle would help offset the width of her shoulders and create a nicer silhouette when paired with the right outfit.

Clean would be a start

Not to change the subject from Alice's ensemble choices, but has anyone watched Matthew Rhys' new Apple+ show, Widow's Bay yet? I saw this article about it the other day but haven't started it yet:

The NY Times critic is calling it the season's best new show. Good for Matthew. Hopefully he'll give his old mate, Ioan, a jingle when it comes time to shoot season 2.

She might want to be about careful depending on her kids taking care of her in her old age. Children develop their own ideas once they are out in the world. She has taught them to be selfish and think only of themselves. Does she really think they will not apply that logic to her if they have to choose between their own needs and hers?
Indeed. My narc mother (Ancient Aussie Alice) got the shock of her life 3 years after my father left and she turned 50, and my older brother told her in no uncertain terms that he was sick of being seen as an ATM!

She honestly thought that her 3 children would be helping her out financially after my father finally left. I was married to my 1st husband at the time, we had a mortgage and his mother had been going out to work as a cleaner at 5am every day for about 20 years...almost the exact same length of time my mother had been a SAHM. Even if we'd had any spare money, it wouldn't have been going to my mother...

As my favourite saying goes...You reap what you sow.

It's a shame I can't show the whole pic, but both her and my aunt were wearing espadrilles and they both looked gorgeous. At sunny Bournemouth on the UK South Coast no less, back in the late 50's with no babies or mortgages, just new husbands and a whole life ahead of them.
Alice isn't a "quirky" dresser, she just doesn't have any taste, or any idea of what looks good. My mum, 5'2" and on the curvy side, realised that she looked better in skirts than she did in trousers. I'm the same height but with no curves, I've always been a jeans and t-shirt girl.
Alice has model height, but she's quite broad and so needs to soften her outline with fabrics that drape and flow. We've said it hundreds of times, but a decent pair of wide-legged trousers and an unstructured jacket, in soft colours, would look miles better than those weird cropped-sleeve jackets and bizarrely-shaped skirts that she's so fond of. And no woman over the age of 45 should wear too much black, it looks great on a skinny teenaged bottle-blonde, but it's just draining on everyone else.
And ffs, she needs to sort out her ghastly hair. Deep, deep conditioning treatments at least twice weekly (any old conditioner and a plastic cap worn overnight will do, she doesn't need to visit a Hollywood hairdresser 🙄) and a decent wig whilst her hair grows out.
She doesn't have the imagination to be quirky!

I think this is what it comes down to. I love some quirky fashion, even if it doesn't work but the outcome is still fun.

And I just want to say, I was not joking about Pigeon Lady! The red coat suits her, the hat goes with the outfit, and she looks comfortable.

These are things that matter, not how much the clothing cost or what fancy brand made it.

It’s brilliant. Chef’s kiss ensemble of character actors. People who actually, you know, act. Not you, MAlice.
