Adam the Woo #39 The more we get to know Faith and Ryan, the more we like Adam

Continuing the DVC discussion from the previous thread...

Using a table I found online (https://www.dvcresalemarket.com/buying/annual-dues/), the dues owed for 2026 on all of those points come to over $6,000. (For context, that's roughly what an average family spends on their entire vacation.)
I'm struggling more to convert points into equivalent hotel stay nights to try to understand just what the time commitment might be to use all the points each year. I see that it varies based on dates, selected room type, and other variables, but I'm curious to learn roughly how many nights those 600 points translate to. Can anyone ballpark it? Can normal people even manage use that many per year?

Over half of those points are for resorts in California and Hawaii, requiring additional travel expenses just to use them (although I think they are transferrable to other resorts somehow?). Combined with the above-mentioned dues, that's a pretty big bill.

And the remainder are for resorts in Florida, which, if you already live within driving distance of the parks, what's the point of a hotel?

For Adam? Sure, whatever, He could probably make it work due to his unique way of living and passion for Disney. I won't even scoff at the drop in value because he didn't buy the points to resell them -- he bought them to use them, to essentially prepay for his future vacations. It just didn't work out because of his untimely death. But for Jim and June for whom travel is more difficult? These points are not valuable to them. For Mermaid & the Mooch? Eh... maybe? It'll depend upon how much cash Adam left behind to cover associated expenses like dues and flights to SoCal and Hawaii. And with them living in Adam's funhouse, I don't understand why they'd need or even want to stay at a WDW hotel. Would they even want the points, or do you think that they'll just sell them (at a discount)?

Adam bought Aulani so he (and whatever guest or family) could spend 2 weeks every year close to the Christmas holiday. So tnose 250 points were based on a more premium room, at a premium time, for potentially more people. He went twice I think and disliked Hawaii or the hotel. Didnt he say it wasn’t Disney enough? His father wasn’t in good health to make regular visits either. He then said he would use it as some sort of home base for his international travel. Well he never made it to that point. The DVC Villas was for a splurge when he went to a D23 type of event there. One week a year for that event each year. When he went to Disney Paris I don't think he stayed at a DVC property. The Riviera was used to treat his parents for their anniversary and for his mother, sister and his “cousins” to vacation at. I think he used the Grand Floridian to court Giggles before she dumped him. Maybe he had plans to put up Sophie and her mom in one of the properties when she visited him in Florida. Remember that he wrote off a lot of his expenses that were part of his vlogs. Pretty sure the Mermaid is doing the same but she is too lazy and bad at it to really be successful at the write offs .

It’s the 6 month anniversary of Adam’s death on Monday. I wonder what they have lined up.

Actually, he steadfastly maintained that he loved Aulani and that it was his favorite Disney resort of all. Yes, he did say he'd use it as a "jumping off point" in the middle of the Pacific. Of course he was already winding down International travel after one year due to the dropping views and the high cost of the travel.

The problems, IMO, were:

• Like every other DVC resort, he really bought in because he liked the idea of it more than actually using all the points. He talked about using all the points "when he got older" (like so many other things - he would sit and watch all his videos in a rocking chair, he'd have his vacation lodging "locked in" with the DVC points, etc). In the meantime, he seemed to use them only when they worked for his schedule or he needed content.
• He went to Aulani the first time intending to bring both parents, but Rev. Jim scuttled those plans with his health issues. So Adam HAD to go back the next year to be able to say he took both parents to Hawaii, and figured why not take Mermaid and the Mooch as well.
• That second trip did HORRIFIC numbers, the views were incredibly low and he shelled out a lot of cash to have everyone there.
• His favorite thing about Hawaii was Aulani...once he did all the touristy stuff once he was kind of done with Hawaii outside of Aulani. He just wanted to hang at Aulani because he did like it, but that wasn't good for views.

Side note: I remember how Adam mostly kept Faith and Ryan off camera that trip and minimized on-camera time with the family. Most of the vlogs were just Adam, him going off to the side and recording or going off on his own.

He did not use DVC at Disneyland Paris, that's correct. I kind of agree with your other assessments that each points purchase was spurred by something in his life. He also, just in general, loved the idea of owning a piece of Disney property (even though that's not what DVC is), and he thought of DVC as an investment (even though that's not what DVC is either), just like he was obsessed with Celebration because it was built by Disney and owning there in his mind was like owning a bit of Disney property (it isn't).

On the first Hawaii trip with Mama Woo, Adam seemed excited about Hawaii and even though this initial excursion was a family trip, he promised he will return to do "island hopping" to other islands in the Hawaiian archipelago for actual adventures. They did all the touristy stuff - bus tours, luai shows, etc - all of which Adam appeared bored. The one exception is when they went to that Jurassic Park preserve and he got really excited about the film locations. He was also very excited about Aulani because Disney.

But the second Hawaii trip turned out to be more of a family trip as the whole Woo clan went along. The trip was almost exclusively at Aulani - the exception being when Adam and Faith to a walk to the shoreline and it turned into an episode of "German in Oahu" as they squawk at the make shift shelters built by the squatters living there. Otherwise that trip was just Adam geeking out over the Disneyness of the Aulani as it seems like the family made it clear they do not want to be on camera. The only thing memorable from this trip was when Papa Woo started complaining about ads with scantily clad women appearing in his SM feed (not realizing that by logging on Adam's laptop, the algorithm was mining the cached browser history of sites visited). It was also on this second trip that Adam talked about using Hawaii as a jumping point to internationl travels, not so much as visiting for explorations as on the first trip.

Adam got DVC because he is obssessed with Disney and he wants to document that on camera "for prosperity". I seem to recall the he said he put down $50K for the initial investment then added the Villa and Aulani resorts later (though I do not know how much) in addition to the yearly fees and add on costs. Yes, it makes little sense to anyone else to purchase the package as most of the resorts are a few minutes from where he lives, but again he is a Disney fanatic. He started to use points when he and Daphne went on a week long exursion to different WDW DVC resorts. (This was when reportedly Daphne posted racy pics of herself from the resort rooms they were staying at to her adult platforms and Adam temporiarily disabled comments.) Since then, it has been family - mostly Mama Woo - who had stayed with him when he uses a DVC room. Then there was that time he signed Dune Buggy Jim and his family to a DVC resort. And no doubt Mermaid and the Mooch will be helping themselves to the Villa room Adam booked for D23 in August.

Adam loved staying at the resorts, eating Disney meals, the light shows at the lagoon, watching the fireworks from his balcony. So the DVC package is worth it to him. But is it worth it to the other members of the Woo family who do not share his obsession with Disney? If DVC is part of the probate, I can see Mermaid reselling points for another income stream.

Mermaid and the Mooch (TM) will 100% use the Disney Villa he likely already booked for D23 and of course his Birthday! Do all of the things and rituals he did each year. Hang out with the insufferable group of “friends” including Kevin their PA. Eat his favourite meal at Bob’s Big Boy, do the WB and Studio tram tours etc. the List goes on. Will they encounter Giggles there? Did the Mermaid message her as well to not speak of her brother and show any images of him? I hope that giggles spills the tea one day.

I think Adam may have had more money than suspected here or at least on the high end of his net and cash worth guesses. I don’t think Adam was crazy rich or had a multimillion dollar portfolio. However, I think his family discovered how much money he had and it was more than they thought or expected. While Faith had a good job as a nurse, I think Adam’s network was more money than anyone in his family had ever personally come into contact. I think it is making them all a bit crazy. The most with Faith. I am not surprised by Dad-Woo that much.

I just hope they are smart and don’t blow it all. It would not surprise me if they did.

I agree that he had more money than many people here think. I think that’s true of YouTubers in general. I know there are websites that estimate people’s income on there. But many are living like wealthy people. Even vloggers who don’t post daily. I don’t understand how it works.

On one of Adam’s vlogs, someone commented about so many YouTubers saying they weren’t well off, or something to that effect. And Adam’s response was, ’they’re lying.’ Granted, Adam didn’t have a family, and also didn’t seem to be paying for pesky things like health insurance. So his version of well off might be different from other people. But I still think he did very well financially.

At Dodger Stadium to see the Dodgers take on and maybe sweep Adam's beloved Rays. Don't expect to see any of the So Cal clique here but you never know.

Maybe we have been looking at this wrong (just spitballing here). What if, instead of the family not wanting to be on camera, Adam deliberately kept them off? Their behaviour (Mama Woo aside) since he has passed does not indicate any unwillingness to vlogged or on film, quite the opposite. Maybe he knew of their proclivities and decided to keep their presence on his channel to a minimum for this reason.

Just some early morning coffee thoughts.

I also believe he had more money than people here want to believe. He paid half a million in cash for a home and spent money freely. I think he had a couple of million in the bank. He may not have had any investments or savings or any money put away for retirement but he was better off than most and had a steady stream of income coming in monthly.

He didn’t have to have another job like some of the other vloggers in his circle, he didn’t need to sell merch or have a patreon like a lot of the other vloggers do either. Whether we like it or not or think he deserved it or not, he did have a good amount of money.

That is the most fascinating mystery of the Woo and really one of the main reasons that originally brought me to this site -- to try and figure out just how much he earns/earned doing this.

I agree that he didn't have retirement accounts or traditional investments (beyond the couple of shares of Disney, Amazon, and Starbucks stock that he talked about in his videos), and that's what makes it so much harder to believe. Compound growth is a truly powerful force, but if all his money is in a checking account, he isn't getting that benefit. Instead, he's got to go about it the hard way: just saving it all.

Say he had $2M in the end. In order to get there, he would have had to have saved on average $125,000 per year throughout the 16 years he'd been posting videos to YouTube. That's not earnings; that's savings -- after everything: cost of living, the taxes he loved to bitch about so much, the annual passes, the unnecessary hotel stays, the magnets, etc. How much would he have to earn in order to live his life AND to save such a significant sum? Sure, early on his expenses were very low when he was living in his van, and even later in his life, he avoided common high expenses like raising children, getting a divorce, driving a flashy car, paying higher education tuition, etc, Hell, he lived with roommates* until he was nearly 50.

But saving on average 6 figures a year for 16 years takes diligence, and that's where I wonder if it was possible. Remember, this is the guy who couldn't keep two servings of chickpeas in his house because he lacked the self-control to stop himself from just eating it all. Could he really put a hundred large into the bank every year and not be tempted to tap into it until the very end?

Of course, if YouTube was paying far more than the estimator sites believe, maybe that savings was just a small portion of what he was pulling in. Who knows?

It's a fascinating mystery that I fear will never be totally resolved.




*About that: It was a BIG DEAL when BLaB did whatever they did to break his lease, and it ruined the friendship. How much did he really lose there? A couple hundred? A few thousand? If someone is sitting on 7 figures, they don't destroy a relationship over such a comparatively small amount (unless, of course, there are other factors at play, which is very possible in this case).

At first I thought he was using some voice changer, but no, he's that strange in reality. What a show pony this guy is, no self-limiting self-effacement ability either.
