I’ve just been diagnosed with acid reflux after posting earlier in the thread and I am so. bleeping. miserable lol. I’m on lansoprazole once a day for a month… terrified to eat because as soon as I eat I get the most awful cramping pain and a bloated/trapped wind feeling that lasts hours… calms down presumably when the food has been digested just in time for me to need another meal 🙄 the lansoprazole has stopped me bringing up acid but not the pain. It is miserable. I haven’t had any sleep for days and I’m living on bread and weetabix because they’re the only things that don’t cause the pain.

(I’m just moaning really. I’m sorry, I know This isn’t very helpful at all. 😆 I just want it to go away 🥲)
Have you tried these:

Now they are marketed for people suffering from IBS, but I took them in a last ditch attempt to help the pain from a peptic ulcer flare up - for which the GP had given me omaprazple - but these worked a treat. I had been in pain for days and theses worked within a few hours to sort me out. Might be worth a punt?

Sorry to hear it :( I get that pain when I have onion - took AGES to work out what it was as I used to have onions in every meal except breakfast.

It's no way to live, anyway. It's a total pain in the posterior, but have you tried a food diary / exclusion type experiment? It might narrow down what causes it (hopefully not absolutely everything bar bread and wheatabix)

Good luck anyway, I hope you get some relief.

I’ve been told by my doctor today to stop taking my omeprazole that I was given for my diverticular disease mainly as it can make my bones brittle and I’m “too young”. I was under the impression you couldn’t just stop and had to wean yourself off these sorts of things. I’ve been taking it every day for five months, absolutely frightened as I don’t want to go back being afraid to eat again and constantly burping and then having pain from constantly burping. What a nightmare! Honestly feel like anything gut related or GERD is never sorted properly by doctors and you’re just left in the cold.

After years of suffering with acid reflux, I was sent for a gastroscopy & found to have a hiatus hernia. But frustratingly, there is nothing they can do to treat it, they don’t tend to operate to repair it (apparently it doesn’t work the consultant told me) so the only thing that should help is taking the omeprazole which don’t work anyway! I’ll certainly try these natural remedies but nothing food wise works, can’t drink milk to help as some do. Pretty miserable isn’t it 🥺
Hello, nice to see some new posts on here! Sorry to hear about the troubles we’re all having, it sucks!

I also was diagnosed with a Hiatial Hernia a couple of months after I last posted on here. It is very frustrating that there is so little they can do. I am on cimetidine as I can’t take PPIs but I think I will have to stop soon as you shouldn’t take them too long. They also only help a bit.

I am thinking of purchasing a device from Sweden called an IQoro which strengthens the diaphragm and sounds like has worked for some people.

I have also done some exercises from YouTube which have seemed to help. The main one is to drink a glass of water, raise your hands to your chest with your elbows out, take a breath as you raise to your tiptoes, then come off your tiptoes sharply as you exhale. It supposedly moves the stomach/hernia down.

I find Apple Cider Vinegar seems to help and DGL Licorice seems to give the cimetidine a kick and work better!

none of the above have been a cure but the ferocity has calmed (I still have a reaction with every meal)

Apologies if you’ve tried these already but thought I’d update what I’m currently doing in case it helps

Wanted to share this in case it helps anyone else! I've been miserable with reflux for the last few months, I'm on Omeprazole but still experiencing symptoms which makes me think my reflux is from low stomach acid. Going to give the apple cider vinegar a try.

Would highly recommend wheatgrass for acid reflux. It’s amazing at alkalising the body! Works wonders

For anyone with a hiatus hernia it might be an idea to see an osteopath. A friend of mine suffers with it and she went to an osteopath with neck pain but he asked her about her health in general and he did a 'thing' on her which reduced her symptoms massively. I'm sorry I don't know more detail but she only went the once

Not sure if you get them in the UK or if they are under a different name but pankreoflat tablets along with omeprazole help me

I have stopped taking Cimetidine now as it seemed to cause me digestive issues. I am now just taking apple cider vinegar tablets and they do help a lot. Will be interested to try wheatgrass!

thanks!
Can I ask what brand and amount you take? I was curious about trying the tablets but wondered if they were as potent as the liquid vinegar.

Hope you enjoy the wheatgrass! Go powder if you can, in the morning on an empty stomach. I mix with orange juice

I take vitabright apple cider vinegar complex with turmeric, ginger and cayenne pepper 1300mg. I follow the instructions and take two a day (I don’t tend to take them with food as directed as I find it works better on an empty stomach).

i don’t think they are as potent/effective as the vinegar to be honest, but they’re close, and I couldn’t take drinking the vinegar any more.

I've had acid reflux ever since I had my son 35 years ago. I use Nexium I get off Amazon as it's cheaper generally. It's the only thing that works for me & has made my life liveable. I can remember one particular Christmas where I couldn't eat a thing, acid plus the feeling of a lump in my throat. I read that pickle juice could help so I'd buy gherkins in the jar and drink the juice. It did help. Tried the natural route over the years but only Nexium rescued me. I have had thoughts of suicide over it. Horrible affliction.

Are you in the UK? If so Omeprazol is on prescription here, I get 60 and pay £9.35 for the prescription.

Any coffee lovers here? I have a small hiatal hernia (after almost a year of reflux I finally had an endoscopy which diagnosed it). I'm weaning off omeprazole and managing ok but I miss coffee so much! I'm wondering if there's any brands that are better tolerated? I do seem to tolerate cold brew better but god I miss a hot cup in the morning 😭

Hope you don't mind me asking but have you noticed any side effects from longterm use of Nexium? Omeprazole is literally a miracle for me when it's bad but I get so worried about longterm usage.

Would you like the velvetiser at all? The hot choc is soooo nice and they do cafe lattes ones now too

I don't have acid reflux problems but anything stomach related I swear by camomile, peppermint, sage, dandelion teas. You can find the more obscure ones in a Polish shop (mniszek lekarski is sage Tea or szałwia is sage tea). Seriously recommend mixing them up like peppermint in the morning and camomile before bed. Herbal teas for any indigestion are amazing.

I'm in general against using prescribed medication although I know in severe cases it's needed.

You should definitely get your diet in check. Recommend keto diet!! I know generally people are against meats and fats because of health propaganda but honestly stay away from vegan and processed diets for overall health. It can't be sustained long term and everyone I know that is vegan their health goes downhill fast even if they feel "good" for some time.

None for me. Quite honestly it is a miracle cure for me. I've been taking it for years, maybe five? I've tried all these suggestions on here and only this made my life worth living. It runs in my family. I've had the generic ones the doctors prescribe but I prefer this any day. Much more effective. My brother had it so bad they prescribed on NHS. He was told they tend not to as its expensive. I get a months supply on Amazon subscribe and save around £20.90 ish pm. 14 tabs in each packet. Worth every penny to me.

Grated ginger in hot water helps me! I grate loads, put it in ice cube trays with water, freeze, then pop one out when required, boiling water on top jobs a goodun 👍🏻
