Has anyone had success with herbal remedies against acid reflux? I cannot take PPI medication. I heard about marshmallow tablets so I have been taking them but I don’t think they’re making any difference!

would love to hear what may have worked for other people

This is a controversial one but I drink fizzy water, it's meant to make it worse but I find it to be the only thing that helps.

Thanks! I find that sometimes helps too! It all makes no sense 🤣
Haha it's funny isn't it 🤣.

Have they prescribed you gaviscon max strength? I find tescos own brand is better, haha

There is a book called 'how I cured my silent reflux' and its all about healing your digestive system, it takes a bit of a lifestyle change but it comes highly rated 😊

I get it at night sometimes and put a couple of books or something under the legs of my bed (pillow end) to raise it slightly and let gravity do its thing

Milk helps me instantly, I also take omeprozole daily. Sleep on right side propped up by 4 pillows x

I find milk and Gaviscon (chewable) together helps; I also have to make a deliberate effort not to move after eating ... just stay still for half an hour or so, which helps greatly.

I have the most awful reflux and am so fed up of it 😔 I take omeprazole daily but the moment I forget one it comes back. Or if I drink wine (which I love) it’ll happen anyway. I’m woken up around 4am every day without fail because I can’t lie down any longer, propping up pillows helps but it’s hard on your neck to sleep that way every night. It’s literally the worst 😩

I think I have this too but it’s really tough to mark out what’s triggering it in me as it seems to happen no matter what I eat - but especially from Bell peppers or really spicy food. I find that moving around helps, even better if it’s quite energetic e.g. jumping, jogging on the spot, going up and downstairs quickly. Failing that then I just chug the gaviscon

Try FODMAP diet? It worked for me in figuring out what was triggering my symptoms.

You may have a stomach ulcer. I thought I had heartburn/reflux but it was actually an
ulcer.

Chopped fresh ginger steeped in boiled water.
A few sips gets rid of mine straight away.
Long term, I took note of the foods that start it off and have eliminated them, no food is worth that pain and discomfort!

I had severe reflux and nothing stopped it and then someone told me to put two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (with the mother) into a little water (or a tiny amount of squash if you cannot stand the taste) then stir in one teaspoon of bicarb of soda and drink it before eating or drinking in the morning and again last thing at night.

Within a couple of days, my reflux had gone. Some people say you don't need the bicarb, but I'm just saying what I myself took.

Antiacid can make things worse and it becomes a vicious cycle if your reflux is caused by not having enough acid, rather than too much.

It’s really interesting all the different methods people use. I was given slippery elm by the apothecary to take before meals and that helped slightly but it’s effect seemed to decrease with time.

The last few days I have cut out cows milk as I had a test which said I was intolerant, have been eating smaller portions and more veg and it has improved. I will keep going and think about the supplements suggested.
Have you ever tried peppermint oil capsules?
Did these work for you? I thought peppermint relaxed the LES so I’ve been Avoiding it.

I will try this as I have suspected for a while my issues are from the acid in my stomach being reduced as at one point on a PPI (which I stopped taking) my food was coming out undigested.

I’m really fed up too. Have you tried a wedge pillow? They are much nicer on your neck. I still wake up with a sore/dry throat though.

That is exactly what my reflux was, I would bend over in the evening or go to bed and bring up my undigested breakfast. Mine was due to antibiotics destroying my gut health. destroying good bacteria along with the bad etc it caused me to have a few autoimmune diseases. I was put on so many * pills potions and lotions. I was able to reverse most symptoms and regain a lot of my health. Sadly not all.

It all started when I found an article on something called "leaky gut" at the time most mainstream medical sites and Drs/NHS said it was not a real condition. I believe they are now acknowledging how important gut health is these days ( our 2nd brain)

* For each symptom I got, they gave me a medication, this created many side effects that in turn created more symptoms that they gave me more medication for. In the end, I was on two whole carrier bags (supermarket shopping bags) of pills and inhalers and lotions etc.

I now make my own apple cider vinegar (with the mother). and give it away to family and friends as it's great for many things.

I’ve just been diagnosed with acid reflux after posting earlier in the thread and I am so. bleeping. miserable lol. I’m on lansoprazole once a day for a month… terrified to eat because as soon as I eat I get the most awful cramping pain and a bloated/trapped wind feeling that lasts hours… calms down presumably when the food has been digested just in time for me to need another meal 🙄 the lansoprazole has stopped me bringing up acid but not the pain. It is miserable. I haven’t had any sleep for days and I’m living on bread and weetabix because they’re the only things that don’t cause the pain.

(I’m just moaning really. I’m sorry, I know This isn’t very helpful at all. 😆 I just want it to go away 🥲)

After years of suffering with acid reflux, I was sent for a gastroscopy & found to have a hiatus hernia. But frustratingly, there is nothing they can do to treat it, they don’t tend to operate to repair it (apparently it doesn’t work the consultant told me) so the only thing that should help is taking the omeprazole which don’t work anyway! I’ll certainly try these natural remedies but nothing food wise works, can’t drink milk to help as some do. Pretty miserable isn’t it 🥺
