Hello,

just after a bit of advice please :)

I’m looking to begin an access to HE course which will enable me to enrol on a paramedic course.

I already have a degree in Law and Criminology which I used my funding for.

Does anybody know if the paramedic courses are NHS funded? Or if I am entitled to a further 3 years tuition?

I have hounded the governemnt website but honestly, I can’t find out.

Has anybody completed an access course?

Is it worth it?

You can get more SFE for many healthcare degrees as a second degree but according to this website for some reason paramedicine is excluded: https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/ca...ng-or-university/financial-support-university

Have you reached out to your nearest ambulance service to see if they offer any on the job training? A friend of a friend has a son who wanted to do paramedicine and he started out as an ambulance driver I think it was, they then offer an on the job course where the degree is funded and you train on the job with a salary included. I don't know if that's just the one near to me or if they all offer it but would be worth a try.

Re the access course I know a few people who did these and they seem intense (equivalent to 3 A levels in a year) but I'm sure if you've done a degree you'd find it manageable as it will obviously be a lower level than you're used to.

I did an Access to HE a while ago now and I loved it.

I had been out of education for a while so it really helped me to get into how to study and write assignments again before going on to university.

I only had G.C.S.E's at the time so had most of the course funded. I'm honestly not sure how the funding works now, but maybe get in touch with the place that is offering the course as they're normally really helpful when it comes to funding etc.

Good luck with your new career adventure xx
