Accents

Have a black country accent, always hear it about it being thick sounding and I always get called a Brummie.

I grew up in the scummy bit of an affluent Scottish town, to an Irish mum and a Glaswegian dad. I went to uni at St. Andrews, fraternising with the home counties received pronounciation brigade, then moved to Plymouth and associated with the globe-hopping Navy sorts. After that I moved to Bristol, and after years of "y'what Jawk? Oi carn't unnerstan' yew" moved back to Scotland, whereupon I hooked up with a French person and got a job that involves me yelling loud, clear instructions to Eastern European people.

I sound fucking demented. Like a malfunctioning robot trying to emulate human speech.

I really like the sound of the Minnesota accent in America. I like the film drop dead gorgeous too.

I pronounce it 'chimley' and my husband who is from Cheshire makes fun of me and was shocked that I didn't know it was pronounced 'chimney'. He asked his work mates who are all Scousers and they pronounce it 'chimney', they said it was a cockney thing to pronounce it 'chimley'. I wondered if it was a Manc thing or if it's just me.

Im in east Manchester & most people i know will say chimley.

Hahahaha I'm from Warrington but I don't have the typical Warrington accent. We either sound like we are from Liverpool or Manchester depending on the side of Warrington that you live. My family sounds more Scouse than Manc but I have friends and they definitely sound Manc.

Im from warrington aswell and get told i sound like i have a manc accent, my parents are from manchester though so no doubt ill have picked up some of their accent.

I have a proper broad Lancashire accent. When I go on holiday people always say oooh you sound just like Peter Kay. Wouldn't mind but I'm not even from Bowton

Just want to say that I personally love the Brummie accent. I can't believe (in this day and age) the hate and disrespect it's getting.
I have a lot of family (on my father's side) from the Midlands (mainly from Wolverhampton) and to me , any accent from that area or close by evokes happy memories from lovely warm people who are very friendly and hospitable don't take themselves too seriously and have a very well developed and dry sense of humour and with a keen eye for observation.
In fact I would go so far as to say that when I hear the accent I get a feeling of safety, and that isn't easy for me to say because I grew up in a very troubled household and am generally an anxious person.
No one should be shared or ridiculed for their accent, and it's not banter when it's tinged with a sense of nastiness or sneering.
Just felt like I wanted to get that off my chest.

I'm Welsh and can't friggin stand my own accent I live in the valleys area of South Wales and I just don't understand why we talk at such a high pitch but I can't get myself out of it either

I don’t like my accent, English wasn’t my first language and I didn’t move to the UK until I was a teenager so even now my accent is kind of a mix, I love all the different English accents. I’m yet to hear an English accent that isn’t nice.
