Agreed! I'm not from Birmingham myself, but some of my family live there, so I get a bit defensive when people make nasty comments about the Brummie accent. I know most will say they're only joking, but it's still a bit shitty.As the owner of a lovely Brummie accent, I can say the perception of us being thick is extremely annoying. Not to mention that when people hear that you're from Birmingham, they immediately launch into an impression that is pure Black Country, nothing like Birmingham at all! Anyway, rant over.

I'm from Salford but live in North Manchester, I don't know anyone who pronounces it chimleyI'm not sure if this is related, but how do you pronounce 'chimney'? I'm really interested to know how fellow Mancs pronounce it. I pronounce it 'chimley' and my husband who is from Cheshire makes fun of me and was shocked that I didn't know it was pronounced 'chimney'. He asked his work mates who are all Scousers and they pronounce it 'chimney', they said it was a cockney thing to pronounce it 'chimley'. I wondered if it was a Manc thing or if it's just me.

I prefer absolutely everything about the North. Most of the accents, the sense of humour, community and slower paced living. Just an observation but people here are also more inclined to brag about a bargain rather than how expensive something is. Which I really love.

Hahahaha I'm from Warrington but I don't have the typical Warrington accent. We either sound like we are from Liverpool or Manchester depending on the side of Warrington that you live. My family sounds more Scouse than Manc but I have friends and they definitely sound Manc.Warrington in between Manchester and Liverpool do not have a nice accent. I’m not fond of it at all. The women from the armpit areas can be quite harsh on the ears and on men it sounds a bit camp.
Wigan isn’t a nice accent. Too much emphasis on their O’s. They sound as thick as brummies.
I find the NW to have such drastic changes of accent in a small area.

I've been in so many office arguments over Barm Vs Muffin, it's always the North Mancs that say muffin. I don't know why it offends me so much
