Thatcher had an 8.1% swing and also a higher % of the vote in 1979 than Tony Blair did in 1997 although he had an 8.9% swing so yes people do switch from Labour to the Tories in significant numbers.

It was a 5.2% swing from Lab - Con but my point wasn't that people never switch Labour to Tory. It's that Tories do not have a sizeable working class voter base and typically working class Labour voters go Reform rather than Conservative. Swinging once or twice isn't indicative of prolonged support.

Shy conservative vote is absolutely a thing though. It’s why many polls fuck it up again and again. BTL comments very different.

I heard an explanation as the people who are mostly polled are stopped by a person with a clipboard in the daytime and it's those (the wealthy left) and the right wing constituents are working and so don't get polled.
Makes sense but I'm sure polls have advanced since clip boards and are maybe sent by email or social media.
Anyone been polled before?

of a sort; though i think it’s difficult with the various different timezones (which means the coasts close voting at different times) and the street ballot boxes etc. this explains it better than me!

Oh yes I agree with you. But Kamala Harris herself never made a big case of her background. It only became a thing later on based on political calculations by the Democrat party but it is more an American issue than anything else. Segmentation of the population was first a marketing tool to better target potential consummers. Race, gender, age etc. are used as a way to categorize people to sell them products they would be more attracted to.

The guy with the beard is Matt Walsh - a conservative commentator who works for the Daily Wire and who made the recent documentary "Am I racist" about the "anti racism" industry

The woman is one of the people he interviewed.
