Hi. Im not very modern with todays technology. Forgive me for being thick. Can i use youtube music for free? Not the free trial, just for free. I looked at it last night and it looked too good to be free. I know its meant to be suported by ads. It wont take money from my internet subscription will it? My husband and i miss out on loads of stuff because we dont know how any of it works. We have only just linked tv to the internet for catch up, we are that old fashioned. Thank you in advance in case anybody replies. xx

That doesn’t sound like youtube, youtube is just a website or an app on your phone so it shouldn’t put anything on your desktop like that. You may have accidentally downloaded something. You won’t be able to store anything off youtube, you can only watch the videos on the website itself
It sounds like that's YouTube premium, just stops ads and so on. You can still listen to music normally

I don’t have a laptop or desktop so that’s probably why!I would try and show you, but i dont know how to do it. xx Ive have somehow got a youtube account, and on the grid looking thing it says youtube music and a library comes up. I dont want to keep mithering you, so thank you for your help. My husband is working with some twenty year olds today so he will ask them. They are always laughing at us anyway !! xx

So YouTube is free. They do have a subscription service to stop adverts & play music without interruptions and you can save music (like Spotify/Apple Music) the pop up is just advertising this to you, if you ignore you can still watch videos as normal, the subscription is optional and won't interrupt you watching videos as you normally would

That's okay! And yes Spotify is free, you will just have to listen to ads. It's only worth buying if you listen to music all the time and on the go. I have a music app called Deezer for £10 a month but I listen to it everyday on my way to & from work, at home cleaning and so on but if you don't use it that often I wouldn't worry, stick to free YouTube!

You are not thick, just trying to understand something that you haven't dealt with before - its perfectly ok not to know something I remember when I first got the internet back in 2004 - I had no clue how to setup email and ended upon some Irish American talk forum (which I became fascinated with because I couldn't get my head round how I could talk to someone so far away and have them reply within seconds!) I hope you get the help for youtube, you can find videos on every subject under the sun there, not just music.

Youtube has an app called Youtube Music for streaming... it replaced Google play. I have YT music because my husband and I share accounts and that is what he uses. I prefer Spotify though and would recommend that.

On you tube you can save to 'watch later' ans create playlists.

You can also save things as 'favourites'. If you're watching a video/clip etc, you can see a little bit underneath that says 'save'. If you click that it will allow you to save that particular video to your list. Sometimes they may disappear from your favourites again, but that's usually because it will have been taken down/deleted etc. it's nothing you've done wrong or anything.
