Your gym routine

Hi everyone! I did look and couldn’t find a thread on this already! I just wondered what everyone’s gym routine is and what your end goal is?

My goals have done a complete 180! I first joined the gym around 2 years ago, my goal was to lose weight and be skinny, I didn’t have a good relationship with food and wouldn’t often eat as little as possible and only focus on cardio, I got to my goal weight and still was not happy!

The past few months my mindset has completely changed, I’ve added weight training into my routine and have actually increased my calorie intake. I now no longer become anxious about eating too much and enjoying food and my goal is to be fit and healthy!

I mix my routine up daily.

I do a combination of MMA training, weights, cross fit and HIIT. I also try to do at least a 30 minute run 6 days a week either outside or on the treadmill. I swim every morning too.

My goal really is just to be as physically fit as possible.

Wow you do a lot!

Similar to you my mindset has also changed when I started exercising more it was too lose weight which I did about a year ago. Probably about 2 stone so not huge amounts.

Since then the focus has changed and I realised how much exercise helps my mental health and how i want to be healthy and happy.

Most of my exercise is from home I do hiit/weighted workouts 3/4 times a week I also have a peloton bike which I use 3 times a week and mostly do tabata style workouts which are quite quick. Recently I have started reformer pilates and barre classes which are lower impact but I love.

I have one day a week where I don’t exercise but if anymore I notice a decline in my mental health. I also try and walk daily as shins it helps with my mental length. I no longer diet or calorie count and feel happier than I have for a long time.

I've been going to the gym on and off for about 5 years - still haven't got to a point where I enjoy it lol

I usually start with a bit of cardio, 30mins on the bike while I watch Netflix hahah. Then I try and do some weights, I aim for 10 reps, 3 sets, 5 exercises. Then if I can be bothered I do another 15mins of cardio, then a stretch and done. I aim for 3x a week. I do need to incorporate some ab workouts in next though as my core is really weak

Oh I do walk a hell of a lot though so my steps are usually over 20k a day

P/P/L - same exercises (depending on whether I’m working out in the gym or rare occasions from home) but increasing the weights. I’ll tend to take a rest day once a week max and it will usually be an active one because my job is sedentary. I need to sort my sleep and cut drinking out completely, both are hindering my progression.

I can do chin-ups and can get a pull-up but want to be better at both. I don’t suppose there is ever an end goal, there’s always something new to learn. Maybe in the future I’ll try a coach to train smarter 🤔 I would never want to go back to pure cardio-based exercise, though.

Has anyone noticed a difference in appetite once adding weight training into your routine?
Since I have added weights I seem to be hungry more often!

That’s normal with the weights. Try and up your protein intake this will help a lot with keeping you full and will also help with your recovery

I have a group PT session 3-4 days a week where we do a mix of upper/lower body weight training with some cardio and core. I also do Body Combat once or twice a week.

I rarely use the gym equipment for my own workout as I find it quite boring running on a treadmill or cycling plus I like the group aspect of working out.

My goal was to lose weight but that hasn't really happened! I am a hell of a lot fitter and stronger than I was 3 years ago, and find my stamina has improved a lot.

Atm I'm trying to lose 15kg. It's just weight I gained during lockdown .. I go gym somewhere between 5-7 times a week and I walk on the stairclimber for somewhere between 40-60 mins depending on how I feel. I switch between speeds 7-10. Once I've lost the weight I want to lose, I'll change everything up!

Right now I'm way to busy, but when I get back on the wagon I'd like to do 15-30 min power walking on the treadmill every morning, boxing once a week, ballet once a week, yoga about 3 times a week and same with pilates. Plus I'd like to do more physical activities with my friends. Right now I just power walk in the morning

You may find that switching things up now will boost your weight loss. Our bodies need to be constantly ‘shocked’ to get the best out of them.

I have been told this but I wasn't sure. I may try this starting next week

I mainly do P/P/L too but I also do some leg work on one of the push or pull days. I like switching it up a bit too so sometimes I’ll do century sets for a workout, other times I’ll do giant sets. Some days I’ll stick to lighter weights and do more reps, sometimes I train to failure instead.

One thing I make sure I do is switch up what I train with so for example if I were training biceps one workout I’ll use cables and dumbbells, the next time I‘ll do barbell and dumbbell exercises, the next I’ll do all cable etc.

I never do cardio at the gym unless I go for a swim.

I don’t have an end goal as such but I am determined for my body to look better in my 40s than it did in my 30s!
