Hey everyone,
I’m due to start uni in September doing children’s nursing, it’s always been my dream but I’m seeing a lot of negativity on social media. I’m a single parent, with a mortgage so retraining is a massive decision!
I already work within the NHS but not within a hospital setting as my trust is community. So I already see the realities of working in the NHS as an unregistered member of staff but not so much the strains of shift work, busy wards with no beds and hospital politics!
I see a lot of people saying that trusts have vacancy freezes despite low staff numbers meaning student nurses are qualifying with little job opportunities.
Please feel free to share your experiences of working in the NHS, particularly nursing. Is it as bad as you see online? Do you think there’s hope for the future of nursing / NHS? Do you wish you’d gone down a different path?
