Woodlice in house

I get the odd woodlouse in my house downstairs and absolutely hate them. Does anyone else get them? Has anyone else had any success in doing something to drive them away permanently?

It's a fairly new house, no gaping crevices that I'm aware of that they could be getting in through. No rotting wood or damp issues. No plantpots outside that they could be hiding under. I tend to see them near the patio and front doors so they must be getting in there but my partner checked both doors, and couldn't see any discernable gap.

It's only the occasional one but they absolutely creep me out and if there was something I could do to repel them permanently, I would.

I feel like this is more of an issue with older houses, my nan used to get more of them.

My house is very old and I’ve only seen two in five years!

my mum’s house was almost new and she used to get loads!

they might just be coming in on your shoes. Do you have a porch you can take your shoes off in?

Yep, that's good advice - we have a porch and are meticulous about taking our shoes off and shaking off any dirt before entering the main part of the house.

We used to get them rather often , then we stopped seeing them although we never did anything different.

Do you kill the ones you see in your house?

My partner picks them up with a piece of paper and throws them out on the grass.

If I'm home alone and see one, I spray Nippon spray at them and hoover the body when its dead. I know its cruel

We have front and back lawns as do most of our neighbours (mature estate, our house was built about 20 years ago on a vacant part of the estate). I've noticed most newer estates nearby don't have much greenery and often have concrete front and back. I wonder do the woodlice thrive in grassy areas like ours.

I just think they are so disgusting looking and creepy.

My house is 1903 and we’ve seen a few recently. Like you I find them really creepy and gross. They mostly seem to be on the wall in the bathroom but I only see one at a time not loads. We’re struggling to find where they might be coming in too, as everywhere has recently been replastered and renovated so there shouldn’t be any cracks!

Do you have a bath? If so, take the bath panel off and have a look under the bath, that can be a little hiding place for them as it’s damp, warm and usually wooden floorboards!!

We do but the whole bathroom was screeded and LVT laid prior to the bath going in!

Do you have flowerpots outside? They love to live under them. We have no flowerpots thankfully, I don't think I could deal with the sight of lifting one up and seeing a swarm of them

I use dethlac spray from Amazon . I spray the bathroom surfaces every 6 months. Wiodlice then won’t walk on them and will move on.

No it’s like a clear sealant so make sure underneath is spotless as it takes 6 months to wear off. The Amazon reviews give some tips how to use it.

Thanks for the recommendation. Does the spray leave marks on wooden or tiled floors?
I used it on tiles so not sure , put a question on the Amazon page for it someone may know

I’ve got them. They’re attracted to damp areas so your house is probably damp somewhere. My rented house has mould & damp and the landlords don’t give a flying 💩. So there’s lots of woodlice due to that. Annoying.

My first place (and landlord) was the same. Every morning we would be sweeping up dead woodlice around the damp areas. I guess at least they werent living long lol

We have started to find loads in our kitchen. Really annoying. They seem to mainly be round where the boiler/washing machine is. We have like a weird vent thing in the floorboards so I have thought they were coming up from that. They must taste stinking as our indoor cat doesn't even bother with them lol. Usually just get them in some kitchen roll and throw them in the bin, creep me right out but I'd rather them that spiders!

You can get a spray called Dethlac, you spray it all over the floor/inside gaps like your vent etc and once it’s dry it will kill any crawling bugs that go on it - it’s safe for kids and animals once it’s dry so would be ok for your cat etc

Could I get it in Tesco or best bet online? Thank you though, il have to get it tomorrow. I only assume they come from inside the vent as it’s around that area I find them, I can only imagine the amount of bugs down in it as it’s close to the patio doors and back wall going outside. I usually keep a wee mat over it to stop critters but the cat likes to run away with it ffs
