Winter flu / norovirus

Norovirus is one of my biggest fears (I have ocd around germs which is usually quite controlled by Norovirus will trigger it).

Flu has really come down, joy of the distancing and better hygiene measures I guess. Plus the flu jab take up rate seems higher this year here. We test our women for both flu and covid, and whilst covid has risen we've hardly had any flu. Colds have been less too but that's because we no longer just get on with it and go to work with symptoms.

Sadly I’ve managed to catch a cold at the moment. Not sure where from, I’ve genuinely hardly left my house and wfh

Every time I cough in assessing whether it’s “dry” or not. Never thought I’d be happy to see phlegm

I wish they’d send letters out telling you to eat better, exercise and what else you can do to prop up your immune system rather than pushing you to get a vaccine that’s only 50% effective!

I had a letter from the NHS this morning, dated DEC31 last year asking me to have a flu jab because I'm over 50, well I'm 54 and I've never been asked before which is odd. I've never had flu in my life, in fact I haven't had a cold for over a year now. Normally I get 2 colds a year which means my immune system has done it's job.

Not sure what to do, checked the GOV website and they say I don't need one unless I'm over 65. I'm a motorcycle courier and I'm working as safe as possible.

Given the biggest breading grounds for these illnesses are either closed or people in them are distancing with enhanced hygiene (although debatable for some on that last point ) I’m not surprised cases are low.

I've had the flu once and it was horrific. I was SO ill. In Canada the flu shot is offered to anyone for free. I got it for the first time in 2020, so did my husband. A record number of people did. With that, masks and distancing, the numbers are down. I think that whenever anyone is ill, they should wear a mask. Not just with covid. Like they do in Asian countries.

I had the norovirus in 2015 and because of pre-existing health problems I had to stay in hospital briefly. It was a scary experience and my local hospital is one of the worst in the country so I got ill again while I was there after recovering from the initial bout of it.

Since then I've got a flu jab every year and I've not been psychically sick again because of illness but I'm always fearful of it because if I throw up I struggle to breath afterwards and it's the most terrifying thing in the world.

I really try to keep healthy as best I can.

Bit of a random thought but has anyone heard of norovirus going round this winter?

It normally rips through work every winter, staff and paitents but i havnt heard of any cases!

Also with the other half working from home not one of us in the house has caught a cold this year!

I've only ever had the flu once and christ did I feel like I was dying. I was pregnant and had influenza B along with a chest infection at the same time and ended up in hospital. Ironically it was the only year I've ever had the flu jab!
