I would love to change, it's not even the friends and family that are truly holding me back but unfortunately the groupchats are used for work communication (which I hate tbh) and unless they decide to switch, I am stuck. So sick of this issue, it's like being cornered into a wall. Deleted my Facebook for good a couple of years ago and you can't get rid of them can you?
Morally, I want to say fuck facebook and ditch the whole app altogether. However, logically I know I use it more than my messages and that wont be possible as all my group chats are on there too. I don't have FB - I do have Instagram but dont post anymore. I haven't accepted the new terms yet, does anyone know the specifics of the data they're collecting?
I'm not too happy with this, but I use Whatsapp on a daily basis to chat to my brother and SIL who are in Ireland and my friend who lives in France. Don't want to get rid of it for that reason, but am not happy about the new terms and conditions.

I work in IT and it is common knowledge that Mark Zuckerberg has already started Facebook profiling for alleged political purposes. I haven't used Facebook or any of its derivatives for a number of years for precisely that reason.
If you don't mind having your personal data farmed and passed on through numerous 3rd parties, then that's fine. But Zuckerberg is trying to create a social media monopoly by buying out rival companies and gathering even more data about people, and who they are, what they do, where they live and what their politics are.
All rather creepy and unlikely to some people's eyes, but from an IT perspective its common knowledge that this has been happening exponentially over the last 5 years or so.
Telegram messenger seems to be gaining more and more followers and its not owned by facebook. I haven't delved into the pros and cons yet but no doubt in a few years time marcus will own that too.
I can’t be doing with the faff of changing... I am fully OK with the notion that nothing we do online is private and I act accordingly. I don’t think any of the alternatives are creating their apps out of altruism either, users will always be the ‘product.
i haven't used facebook in years, have not missed it once, don't see why i wouldn't ditch whatsapp either
if someone reeeally has to contact me, they'll find a way i guess
Disappointed but not surprised :/ honestly I don't really have any other options for keeping in touch with people unfortunately as my friends are unreliable and my family is just a band of technophobes who can barely copy and paste
The landlord uses it as a group chat to manage tradespeople times/inspections/issues so I'll have to keep it just for that. I don't really use it otherwise though.
