What is the difference between pet breeding and breeding for human consumption?

How can people be ok with animals being bred in horrendous conditions, having their babies taken from them, being used to make profit and being slaughtered but be so against people buying pets? Yes, puppy farming is horrendous, but the ordinary persons 1k on a puppy is nothing compared to the millions of pounds big companies get from the animal abuse involved in dairy farming, the fishing industry, cattle industry etc.

It baffles the mind!

Because we're desensitized to it from birth. And also the way food is marketed.

Yes you are right about this. Although to be honest I'm only just learning about the horrors of dairy farming so still pretty ignorant about it all.

Im not vegan or vegetarian but have massively reduced my dairy and meat intake more for environmental reasons.

However I have often posed the question to my veggie friends who do say theyre veggie for animal cruelty reasons why they consume dairy products. As the dairy industry is horrid.

There so much info out there, so for anyone to say they weren't aware of something they do routinely or without thought isn't the best thing to say. I think many people want things instantly or just choose to ignore the consequences. I can't do anything about that, only make sure that I'm not one of those people.

Education/Ignorance

Why do we change what it's called? Why not I'm having roast <cow, sheep, pig> tonight. It's weird chicken is the only one we don't change.

In my opinions it's about moderation and avoiding that whimsical lifestyle.

Puppy breeding has got out of hand in some respects and people are paying stupid money. I hate that cross breeds now have silly name just so people can charge a higher price.

Farming isn't great, but the practices in the UK are some of the best in the world. If you are insisting on eating animal products do it in moderation, you don't need meat in every meal and consider where it has come from.

Those who are so vehemently against dog breeders for using animals for making money (ie many in that other thread) need to take a long hard look at everything else they do in life. Farms, zoos, petting farms, sleigh/carriage rides, horse riding, donkey rides, alpaca walking, aquarium's, sea world's, whale watching, all using animals for financial gain. Yes, some maybe may have better ethics than others, but the same can be said about breeding dogs.

My family had a farm and farmed animals for meat . The livestock are business investments and people look after their investment. There is a hell of a lot legislation surrounding farm animals. They all have documentation and id tags. British farm animals have to be kept in better than a lot of other countries.

I think the main difference is farm animals aren't treated as pets ,and I think some people can't get their heads round that .

I see your point, but puppies also come with documentation and microchips. Good breeders exist like good farmers exist, yet some people will outwardly judge someone for buying a puppy while not thinking twice about where their food comes from. It's the hypocrisy that gets me.

There's documentation with pedigree dogs / Kennel Club registered, but not mixed breed ones.
I was responsible for chipping my dog ,after I got her but that was almost 10 years ago. I think the microchip rules have changed now and they are more stringent .
