What is the cheekiest thing you have seen someone set up a Go Fund Me for?

A woman I know set one up, asking for people to pay for her daughter to spend the summer in America! Then she shamelessly posted links to her FB at opportunities.

She has a lot of children who all went to expensive private schools. And constantly posts about house renovations and expensive holidays.

I think it’s an absolute cheek. But loads of people donated to it! Up to them, I guess.

I think some pet owners reach a point where they will do anything to save a pet, even when it’s not in the pet’s best interest. There has developed a culture of keeping a pet alive at all costs when that’s not actually fair on the animal.

Having to say goodbye to a pet is one of the hardest things ever, I don’t deny this at all. But some owners have lost sight of things from the pet’s pov.

People were calling it out in the comments as a scam as the asker couldn't provide any evidence of vets bills etc who knows people were still donating though
personally I don't agree with all of these gfm it's all the time and it's for everything now

There is a youber who has a rescue bird and they film it "dancing" to music a while ago they set up a donating page to help them move house for the sake of the bird, not to get the bird a new cage food or medicine no so the owners could move house and loads of people donated they got called out in the comments too but I mean wtaf you can't make it up

Alice bleeping Evans, the former Mr Fantastic's Alcoholic Ex Wife, set up a GFM to cover her legal fees for her divorce that court documents later showed her Ex was paying in their entirety.

One of my dog's eyes went when she was 15. We were paying £600 a month to treat it (well we had insurance so we were getting it back) and she died 5 months later. We'd probably have been better putting her to sleep when the eye thing started because she was going a bit senile and stuff too. I feel bad about it all the time, but we loved her and he made her last few months as good as they could be considering.

I remember someone setting up a fund to pay for a family holiday, probably to Disneyland, but I'm not sure, not because she had a kid who was sick or anything like that, but because she'd never be able to afford to take her (numerous) kids there, and she just fancied a freebie.

I mean, I know it sucks when you can't give your kids everything you want to, but fancy holidays are hardly an essential, and there''ll be plenty other people in the same boat who aren't begging for a freebie.

My ex’s mate plays a sport. Every year he sets up a go fund me to raise money so he can travel abroad for a tournament. This man is almost 30 and earns a very good salary. Last year he got his trip to Canada totally funded. Flights, hotel, food…all paid for by others. Don’t know how!

What I don't understand is that everyone is moaning about the cost of living yet they'll happily give money to a complete stranger for a luxury holiday that they themselves can't afford to enjoy. Yet they'll donate to enable someone else to have that experience. Why? Are they just really thick/gullible/zero ability to think critically?

An acquaintance I hadn't seen or spoken to for years and years once set up a gofund me to raise money so she could move closer to her mum (after she chose to move away from her in the first place.) Problem is, her Facebook was full of pictures of her out and about at expensive places. Didn't seem to occur to her to maybe cut down on doing those things.

The worst part is, I only became aware of the gofund me because she sent me the link on Facebook messenger. After years of not hearing from her. Not even a "Hey, how are you?" Literally just the link to her fundraiser and nothing else. I was genuinely embarrassed for her.

Someone I knew as a kid recently started one to get a cleaner!
Unless its a 5+ bedroom mansion there really is no need for a house cleaner, yet I keep hearing of people getting one for their small flat or 3 bedroom house because they "dont have time" what a bunch of lazy shits! Takes no more than an hour a day to keep on top of it, even if you work full time

It seems like a pretty bold move to crowdsource a luxury like that, especially with the way she flaunts her lifestyle. If people are willing to donate, that’s their choice, but it definitely raises eyebrows about priorities and generosity.

This may sound callous but it is my opinion - too many GFMs for funeral costs for families who can well afford to pay for a funeral.

Again I ask the question, why do people donate money to these complete strangers when it's patently obvious that the complete strangers have way more money than they'll ever have? I just don't get it.

Surely if people just stopped donating that would be the end of the scamming?
