Will you take your kids Guising/Trick or Treating this year ?

Will you give sweets out at your door ?

I always do jokes/sweets on the doorstep anyway. I'm not a fan of the houses that invite you in 😱

I think I will pre plan to go to a few close friends and maybe just have a walk around so see people's pumpkins or something.

Our village are doing a pumpkin trail over half term. Not sure what it involves yet though. I'm unsure on trick or treating this year

I think to do trick or treating is absolute frigging madness with Covid flying about.

I despise Halloween at the best of times.

We only did halloween for the first time last year and the kids loved it 🥰 they were so excited to get dressed up again, but with covid? Nah

I think I will definitely still let the kids dress up and maybe do some party games or hide sweets around the house instead.

I do feel for the kids. No Halloween no birthday parties, lots of Christmas events already cancelled. Our school won't be doing their usual disco, fayre or Christmas shows. It's going to be a looong winter !

I’ll be glad if I don’t get anyone knocking at my door, I can’t be bothered to keep getting up!

Slightly off topic but is penny for the guy still a thing?!

I don't think I have ever seen that in real life ..... I thought it was an old thing but maybe it's regional ?

My friend refuses to call it Trick or Treating she always says this is Scotland not bloody America it's Guising !! 👻

Totally agree.

I don't have children but I wouldn't ever take them trick or treating. I would do a party at home with a few friends.

We usually only do houses we know. Usually it's just houses with other local kids and they all go between each others houses. A few of the older people in our street like the kids to come to the door as well to see them dressed up and give them some sweets.

We have never gone to random people's houses or anything. I am thinking we might just do our very close friends houses (on the doorstep) just so they can tell their jokes if the restrictions allow. I will also do some Halloween fun at home.

My older kids are middle primary and they are at the loving Halloween age.

I am probably old! We never had trick or treating as a kid. We would make a guy, which was essentially a scarecrow, sometimes use it to basically beg for money in the lead up 😑 ‘penny for the guy’ then throw him on the bonfire on ‘bonfire night’

I have no clue, we live in the US so it is a big deal here. My son asked me last weekend to buy him a costume and I figured he can at least wear it for dress up. I am so torn. One the one side I think the kids need something to look forward too but on the other side we also don't want to get sick. We already decided that we will not do anything for his birthday except have grandma over.

Yes it's huge for you guys isn't it.

I had wondered if people might go more for a decorated house trail or something but I doubt anything like that will happen near us but maybe something that would work better in America.

A trail would be nice. I would also worry about the reaction people might give to having their doors knocked on! I don’t think some people will appreciate lots of children knocking on their doors.

Although most will be wearing masks 🎃

I’m torn and will wait to see what people are doing in our area. There’s a couple of housing estates here that really put effort in. We only go to houses with pumpkins/decorations anyway and so I guess if people didn’t want trick or treaters they just won’t decorate?

Not sure this year we normally go trick or treating.
Im guessing rule 6 apply we are a family 6 so no freinds over.

So maybe an elaborate Halloween tea for my children.
Ott house decorating.
Maybe leave sweets in doorstep and refill regularly

I guess bonfire nights also cancelled and our garden just not big enough to do fireworks safely.

Forgot about Bonfire night 😭

I was thinking I might do bags of sweets and set a few on the doorstep at a time for friends kids. That way it wouldn't be lots of kids putting their hands in a bowl.

I am guessing it will only be people we know well who will come to the door this year (and not even them depending on restrictions)

Good idea might pinch.

Argh, I’d forgotten about the 6 rule 🤦🏼‍♀️ there goes allowing the kids to have a friend round each then.

If it doesn’t go ahead we’ll just have a day a day of spooky films and I’ll let them knock on our door 😂

Could do a little fire in the garden for bonfire night, roast some marshmallows. If you have a wood burner, fire pit or BBQ. I don’t know if sparklers are socially acceptable nowadays, or are they too risky 🤷🏼‍♀️
