Fourth thread time!

Operation mincemeat seems to be doing well on broadway, I saw it last month in London with the ‘new’ cast and now I can’t picture the original cast as those characters at all!

Me neither and I know Jak Malone won an Olivier for Hester - but I can't imagine Hester being anyone other than Christian Andrews. I cant imagine anyone singing Dear Bill as beautifully movingly as Christian

You remember correctly, nothing else was posted about it unfortunately. Which is unfortunate as I would love to know what the drama was.

I think the talk was about a potential recasting/replacement. And if that happened then we would find out. But to my knowledge no one has left so guess it will remain a mystery

Yeah I wondered that but the main actress is still in it, and was there an alternate before?

When I saw it, we saw the cover, Tegan Bannister performing as Nancy (she was great, it was her debut that we saw). I’m not sure if there was a formal alternate at the time. Curious.

two Tina’s, alternate Elphaba and now Nancy. Good for the voice of the performers and their energy levels I guess. I didn’t have Nancy as that demanding a role compared to the others.

The last Oliver production at Drury Lane had an alternate Nancy who did a couple of shows a week. So it's not unheard of.

Either it was nothing, or whoever was involved amended their behaviour

Admit i love the first two movies, such good comfort watching. But really didn't like the third one and can't say I have much interest in it being musicalised

Wonder when they will announce Buzz's role? Maybe even Giovanna's for that matter.

Probably when they announce the rest of the front of house team

I'll be surprised if nepo casting happens. Tom doesn't have that much power, especially over major film studio and Sonia Friedman. I also suspect this will get treated like a Disney show, or Back to the future where the show is the star.

I would tend to agree except that nothing seems to be out of the reach of this family of grifters.

Speaking of alternates, can anyone tell me why Moulin Rouge has an alternate for Satine but not for Christian?

I can imagine writing for a musical and writing for a band are VERY different. If you listen to the lyrics of so many well known songs, they often don’t really make a lot of sense!
So, to write a lot of songs, to tell a story, is extremely challenging. I suppose Tom has a background in writing children’s books, and there’s been the musical versions- has he written every song in those???
I’ll be interested to hear some other songs, to see if it’s style over substance.
I also hope his son, sister, wife and brother in law aren’t cast in this…

I presume for the actual show he's pulled his finger out a bit and done slightly more than just ripped off the "Westminster Quarters" Big Ben chime tune, like that clip has, maybe that's just promo material and not in the actual show.

Yeah you'd hope, but also that sounds like him so seems odd not to use something that's in the show.

Curious to see how it turns out.
