Enjoy shopping for your wedding bits, look on Pinterest for inspiration. Make your own little diy bits, it’s really fun and gives a personal touch to your wedding

Don’t be a bridezilla! I know your wedding is important to you but don’t be bossy with bridesmaids/family etc. It can cause all sorts of rows. I didn’t expect my friends/family to pay loads of money to go on hen dos or days out etc. Kept it nice and simple.

Remembers it’s yours and your Partners day so don’t let other people interfere! Stick to a budget too!

So, we are recently engaged and starting to think about what we would like to do… except, we haven’t a clue where to start!

I am hoping there might be a few other recently engaged people around to share tips and ideas with? We have a few big decisions we need to make, massive differences in numbers of friends/family.. lots of really fun things to decide before we can even start thinking about the actual day.

so I guess, two things… one, is there anyone else out there starting to plan their wedding! And two, has anyone got any top tips that they wish someone had shared with them at the start of their wedding planning journey?

I got engaged last Christmas and we’ve booked our wedding for October 2022.

The first thing we started thinking about- where we wanted the wedding. We thought about the type of venue, did we want a church or a none religious ceremony? Etc. If a non religious ceremony, where did we want the wedding? And then we started to think about where we would want the location, central to us and family or somewhere different?

once all that was decided we started to think about dates. It was easy for us, we didnt want spring or summer.

Those where the two things I wanted to narrow down first as they were important.

I personally want to keep my wedding ceremony & breakfast personal and so I have only invited 28 people to the day. One tip I would give is, don’t worry about what others think, it’s yours and your partners day! So don’t worry about inviting people to the actual ceremony just because you’re worried what they’ll think if you don’t, you invite who you want.

im also only having two bridesmaids and I’m not doing a traditional hen do. I want the wedding that suits my partner and I, not the wedding that fits some fairy tale narrative!

I recently got married and my only bit of advice is do not stress the small stuff. I wish I had paid extra for suppliers to do more rather than DIY everything. I spent about 200 hours making handmade favours and place names for the table and only about 10 got taken or used and the rest went in the bin and a few in storage

Use Pinterest for style ideas and start booking in to see some venues but note they will be very booked up with all the postponed weddings so if you want to get married in the next 18 months accept you may have to go off peak months or a week day. Get lots of quotes of suppliers

Congratulations!

I got engaged last year so we started a bit of planning before lockdown. The one thing I did start looking into was venues - once you have an idea of what sort of thing you want you can find venues and they’ll do appointments where you can go and look around. We never got to do that because of Covid and we’ve since decided to get married abroad, but even just doing the email enquiries gave us more of an idea of what our money would get us.

I also made a guest list pretty much straight away My partner has a huge family compared to me, so it helped to write everyone we’d want to invite down so we had a rough idea of numbers. That helps when budgeting too - e.g. £60 a head for the meal sounds fine until you realise how much that would cost for 100 people!
