Wedding guest outfit - help!

Have a wedding to go to next year. It's not until April, but I've been keeping an eye out waiting for the Christmas stuff to come into shops, but I'm not seeing anything much yet. Is it still too early? I thought a lot of sparkly/party clothes are normally in by now. Have been having a look at clothes online, but nothing is jumping out at me, so I'm asking my fellow Tattlers for help please :)

I'm 5'3", size 6-8 (more of an 8 on the belly so that's the one are I don't want to highlight) legs are probably my best feature so shortish might be good. I have dark hair and eyes and love red lipstick. Hair is currently waist length and needs about 6 inches cut off so hopefully will be a bit shorter by then and possibly in some sort of updo, so any suggestions for fascinators/hairclips etc would be great too. Preferably a dress but it doesn't have to be. I love red, black is fine for the wedding. I like navy, teal, green but not pink. Obviously not white/cream etc and pastel colours make me look like death warmed up so are a definite no no.
I have no idea what shoes I'm wearing yet (will depend on the outfit) but they'll definitely be heels (4"+)

Thanks all :)

I’m similar size/build and my go to always used to be Oasis - but since their high street business folded they’ve been a bit hit and miss…
French connection is where I got a dress for a wedding earlier in the year, but it was so hard to find anything 😩 kinda glad the next wedding I’m going to is my own 🤣

this is the dress I wore (in blue)

and this was my other option

have you tried everything5pound?

It's got a lot of nice stuff on there and cause it's old stock it's not on "trend" so easier to find things you want/are comfortable in versus a high street store which I find very same-y

I bet the fashion industry is wary of releasing party/ occasion wear this winter incase of restrictions.

What about looking on ebay for inspiration and you might find a bargain. And Pinterest for ideas.

A wedding and getting dressed up sounds like a nice thing to have to look forward to

I have been attending so many weddings these past few years so I try to spend as little as possible on them. ASOS sells nice dresses.I usually just filter to 'occasion dresses' and my size which is the same as yours, and then sort from low to high price.

There is a website called Brandalley that has high street and designer sales - Ted Baker, Reiss, Hobbs, Phase Eight etc. with up to 60% off. Definitely worth a look on there as they’ll have non-seasonal clothes as well.

I think satin dresses look lovely and are very flattering for petite figures. Just some pics from Google:

That's what I was thinking because normally the Christmas/party wear is in the shops at this stage.

Do you have a budget?
Around £150. Could push to £200 if it's something I really like.

Silkfred has some lovely dresses, they do a lot of outfit inspo on their Instagram to

ETA just looked and they actually have a wedding guest dresses section on their website 😊

SilkFred looks nice. Bloomingdales also has a good search option.

Absolutely love Asos for nicer dresses! I find sizing there really good as well since they do petite and tall.

Morning, I second asos - you can filter to occasion wear and they have such a broad collection and another website I’ve purchased from for weddings and christenings are DLSB.co.U.K.

They have some gorgeous dresses and jumpsuits which would be perfect for spring. There’s still lots of pastels and florals on both websites which will work well for spring! I’d check the measurements for both websites, especially asos as they have so many brands the sizing can vary wildly.. I’m usually a 14 and can range from 10-16 on there!!

I’ve tried silkfred before and a couple of the dresses stunk of cigarette smoke so put me off and seems expensive for the quality you receive. Good luck!

OMG, that's shocking! That happened to me once when I ordered a dress from H&M. I took it back to my local store and the staff were very apologetic.

Lots to look at here. Thanks everyone :)

Personally I’d be wearing something like this to a Xmas wedding 😍 can’t go wrong with bold colours or a bit of sparkle for a Xmas wedding. This sort of shape will hide any ‘podge’ perfectly too. Could still wear a fascinator with it x

pretty little thing also do wedding guest section and have lots for autumn winter! Next tend to do loads of more sparkly dresses if that’s something you’d want

Reviving this thread as I have a few weddings to go to this year. Dressing fancy is really not my thing and I literally have no idea what's appropriate. Does anyone have suggestions where to look? Is it inappropriate to wear a bodycon dress to a wedding? What about a black or red dress? Short dress? Shoulders out? I have so many questions 🙈
