Do people recommend using a diffuser? I've never really got away with them in the past , I just blast with the nozzle and use my fingers, but i need a new hair dryer. Wonder if I should invest in one now I'm embracing my curls.
Definitely use a diffuser xx

I find using diffusers or any heat makes my hair really stringy, but I really wish they worked for me. I've 3c hair

Sorry if this has already been covered but does anyone own the Dyson supersonic hairdryer. Is it really worth the hype if you have thick frizzy hair or is there anything cheaper that’s just as good?

In a word, yes! My family and I all have thick hair that’s prone to frizz and the Dyson supersonic is a game changer.

I own a Dyson hairdryer and honestly it makes my hair frizzier. I have thick curly hair which is prone to frizz at the back. I so regret the £300 I spent buying the Dyson.

I also have a professional dryer made by Diva (think they maybe Italian) which is the best dryer I have ever known.

If you know someone that has a Dyson, maybe see if you could try it before you spend all that money.

Not sure this is the right question to ask on a Curls thread! Please don’t all come at me! 😂 The older I’ve got I seem to be loosing my curls! I’ve tried all different products/techniques/cuts to enhance the curls, but they just seem like they bare done! I am Now debating have a blunt bob cut and either having the procedure which straightens your hair… or just styling it myself each day! just wondered wether anyone had done something similar or wears their curly hair straight and their opinions!? Thankyou ☺

I wear my hair straight quite a bit. I had all sorts of treatments done on my hair when I was a bit younger but nothing ever gave me great results. Anything that actually straightened really wrecked my hair. Things might be better now though. A few people i know have the Brazilian blow dry regularly to help the management of the hair, I don’t believe it’s actually a straightening treatment. I just usually blow dry and straighten and it lasts about a week for me, so I don’t feel I need to do anything more at the moment.
My Mum uses a round blow dry brush on her hair and it comes out perfectly with no straightener needed but it doesn’t work for me as my hair is very tight curls right from the roots - so I use a regular powerful hair dryer and round brush. It depends on your hair type on what would work best.

I wore mine straight for years for convenience! But if you can afford it/have one locally it's worth seeing a curls and waves specialist. Mine took one look and said my hair lacked proteins and I was using too much conditioner so it was wrecking the wave pattern. She didn't upsell me a single product literally just consulted on the curls/waves.

I was going to recommend exactly this! My life has been changed since going to a curly hair specialist 🙏 as you say, no upsell of products and they use a huge variety depending on what customers currently need. Nothing ever super expensive either

My curls have dropped as I've got older too. I used to straighten mine a lot when I was younger, took a while but then would last for as long as I wanted it really. I was toying with getting some new straighteners and giving it a go again.

I’m gonna jump on this topic as I’m looking for a thread to ask curly girls who wear their hair straight which serums or de frizzing product they find best? Pulling out grey hairs has done me no favours and I feel like my hair texture has changed recently - it was awful to begin with. Recently tried K19 and Kerastase black and gold bottle (can’t remember if it’s like a mature hair range or not) I need something to put on pre blow dry to help tame the frizz. Can I ever even start to repair my hair after 20+ years of straightening??

To keep on topic, if anyone knows of any curl specialists around west / North Yorkshire I’d be interested. Maybe it’s time to stop fighting it and embrace the curls

Re: Brazilian blow dry - I had it about 5 yrs ago, definitely more of a tamer than a straightening treatment. Thinking of having it again this year. I had ionic straightening many years ago, cost about £300+ but my hair was pin straight after, can’t remember how well it lasted before it grew out though. So many hours of applying chemicals and straightening … I would do anything for straight hair 🤣🤣

Thankyou for all your advice on my previous post - I’m having the chop tomorrow - my daughter has straightened my hair and styled it for me the past few days and I’ve had so many compliments on how straight hair is more suited to me and I’ve actually felt good about myself as my hair is not such a scruff! 🙂

As long as you feel good, you wear your hair however you want ♥

I’m trying to commit to a simple CGM again. I would love straight hair that I can just leave and tie up, but I have stupid non straight hair that looks like a bird’s nest half the time 😭

I would love to wear my hair wavy, but it just seems to curl at funny angles and frizz. Is there a way to get waves more than curls? I think I’m 2b-3a with some random flat bits in places. Fml lol

I have pretty curly hair (3A/3B) and have always wished it was more wavy as I find it so hard to manage. I looked into ways to try to make it less curly without heat or straightening treatments but I’m yet to try them. I read that if you apply a mousse (to clean and wet hair) and then section your hair into loose braids or twists and let it dry or diffuse then that should achieve waves rather than curls.

I’ll give it a try one day where I don’t need to be anywhere just in case it turns out awful😂

If you look on the Merwave blog that really helped me, and they have some videos etc too? I tend to finger style

I use a heatless roller to recreate washday. First night I can just clamp up but then I refresh with water/curl reviving spray and sleep in a heatless roller with a bonnet. If I don’t do that I lose a lot of definition because I’m lazy on wash days. If I really can’t be bothered I’ll twist the hair up in a clamp and put bendy rollers in my money piece sections and wear up so it still looks like a wavy updo but without the effort.
