Surely nothing compares to the love of one’s country
TBH the 'keeping the US as an ally' is something that is becoming increasingly difficult over time and I believe there may be some emergency delegations heading over to the Whitehouse as Trump needs de-programming yet again after the latest round of instructive blessings from Putin as relayed to him by the gopher Witkoff.

Trump's plan is full of shit and the short deadline is stupid. I could add that Trump is a cunt but since he's blackmailing an entire country with this so-called 'plan' he has pretty much re-announced that to the world already.

Apparently Russian citizens have withdrawn millions of dollars from their bank accounts over fears that their cash would be seized to fund the war in Ukraine.

Odd that Zelenskyy is putting all faith in Trump only yesterday he stated he’s the only one will end the war.
That bit about needing to keep people on board long enough to buy enough time, unfortunately in one of his latest insane rants Trump managed to include in his 'infamy infamy' fake news hoaxes list not just 'russia russia russia' but now also 'ukraine ukraine ukraine' which perhaps isn't surprising as Witkoff will have been filling his head with all that Kremlin crap again.

Trump saying Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed. Bloke is on drugs isn't he? I'm genuinely curious if Trump is all there mentally at this point.

Putin has been attacking the UK for over 20yrs, hacking, spying, hovering around communications cable under the sea & killing folk on UK soil.
I did hear on the radio last week though that US Intelligence had info about an impending attack on a NATO country by Russia, in the coming weeks/months, a bit vague in detail.

We can’t even construct a decent tank without leaving the occupants ill and deaf I don’t know how they’re planning on fighting a war.

Does Putin call a wartime truce when dignitaries are visiting 🤔 strange that the region is suddenly safe for their visit.
Indeed, he doesn't dare. IIRC there's been a couple of times when visiting dignitaries have had to dive for cover but not often and I suspect followed shortly by a firing squad.

Anyway Putin is busy recovering from the strain of pretending to be a decent person at events yesterday where he had to go on about everything being absolutely fine and all going according to plan pretending it's all fine.

Khuilo at the Kremlin, unapologetic for the waste of life:
Meeting with widows of fallen heroes from Special Operations Forces
February 23, 2026 16:50 The Kremlin, Moscow
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon.
I specifically wanted to meet with you on February 23, Defender of the Fatherland Day, because, as the families of our soldiers and officers, you will always have a special connection to this date.
Sadly, your own defenders are no longer with you. But the Motherland, the country they gave their lives to defend, will always stand by you.
I wanted to use this opportunity to hear how you are doing, what is working well and what more can and should be done to support you. Our priority is to help you get back on your feet, and to make sure your children, our children, can do the same.
If he really cared he wouldn't have sent all those people to a pointless death.

As in Putin wants the Donbas and won’t compromise 😂
Mainly because of the strategic master stroke of declaring those four administrative regions to be within Russia before they had been captured, now he's stuck in a stupid position of his own making where he has to accept some redrawn boundaries or another (at current rate of progress) 25? years of grind and steadily diminishing 'rewards for heroism' that were being given to widows of Russian soldiers which were already somewhat paltry, along with none of his people seeing much change of anything domestically except shortages and higher prices.

One explanation I read was that they all vote for him anyway because the one thing that Russians are absolutely best at, is hating Russians, second only to the philosophy that success as a nation is achieved not by making anything better but by making everybody else worse.
Also because he's protecting them from the vast hordes of invading nazis which surround Russia, 'nazis' still translating to 'anyone without a communist origin story' which I believe sufficiently covers China, North Korea and Russia itself.

This is an interesting writeup of how Russia's oligocracy works in relation to the war, the options of tea and/or fenestroika of course always remain available but to properly control you need to threaten their money too.

TLDR : Trump will do anything except blame Putin whose fault it is and always has been.

and noted here, 'says Russia' of course being the key indicator
sky news liveblog 15 Jan 10:20 Trump is right - it's Zelenskyy holding up the peace deal, says Russia
Moscow has supported remarks made by Donald Trump overnight, when he pointed the finger at Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In an interview with Reuters news agency, he was asked about Vladimir Putin - and he said: "I think he's ready to make a deal."
And he added: "I think Ukraine is less ready to make a deal."
Asked why he hasn't yet been able to resolve the conflict, Trump responded: "Zelenskyy."
Zelenskyy has agreed to every peace initiative that's been put forward, and Putin hasn't. Despite being terminally confused, Trump is well aware of this and knows exactly who is to blame but that doesn't fit the his vision of world real estate, the one where Putin gets Europe.

Another massive attack wave

Noting that no ballistic missiles were intercepted - showing the main problem of something like the Patriot system, the limitations of area coverage (never mind the indane cost).

And the top US negotiating team is on the case... of the stupid WTF-is-your-malfunction war with Iran.

Sorry if this has been mentioned in previous threads but there is a good documentary on iPlayer called ‘Mr Nobody Against Putin’.
It’s about a teacher, Pavel Talankin, who documents how his school in a small mining town in Russia is transformed into a recruitment centre for the ‘special military operation’ and how the school progressively becomes more militarised as ordered by the state. It’s also interesting how those who are pro Russia speak in an almost cult like manner.
IMG_5569.jpeg

This teacher is a history teacher who Talakin says is brainwashed by Mother Russia. If he got the chance one of the people he’d most like to meet from history is Lavrentiy Beria - head of Stalin’s secret police, rapist and murderer.

Feels like cold comfort for giving your life for one man’s ego.

Utterly mad.

And yet seemingly barely a whisper of complaint. But having to queue for petrol, this is when they start wondering if the whole 'special military operation' is actually worth it.

Perhaps more indicative of the proportion of people prepared to speak up, but to have taken so long... but if that threshold is now crossed then there's hope for at least some form of cessation, though Russian withdrawal I think isn't going to happen until after Putin is dead.
The lifespan estimates came from Russian military bloggers/analysts.
Putin's too busy making videos about the best pickling of cabbage techniques.
