it’s frustrating bc creator’s seem to refuse to understand what we mean. Yes there’s aspects to their job that are stressful and a lot of work, like in your usual 9-5 (having to worry about engagement and maintain relevancy, having strangers dissect your words and actions from clips online, even filming and editing itself) but the fact that they can post a video/tiktok/photo on ig and easily make someone’s yearly salary (or at least a good chunk of it) is fucked. The fact that they can mention they’re in a store one vlog or the they like a brand and the next vol they’re being sent products and clothing worth hundreds of pounds is fucked.tattle clip isn’t going down too well on tiktok..
And the argument they tend to hit back with, that viewers “get to enjoy content for free” drives me up the wall because firstly, avoiding ads on YouTube is borderline impossible so it’s not technically free and secondly, it’s not like they don’t HEAVILY benefit from said views. They’re not exactly doing charity work to provide free content, they are indeed getting paid shitloads.
I feel bad that this is all coming through Liv because it’s always easier for people to jump on what women say, when we know the men in UKYT are 10x worse when it comes to being out of touch but as someone who worked a 9-5, surely she has to admit that the stresses of her current job can’t even slightly compare when you look at the pay cheques that come through now compared to what she was likely getting in her marketing job.
