I actually do quite like Keir Starmer for no other reason than I think he is fundamentally a decent human being. I’m tired of the style over substance nature of everything these days i all aspects of society. When I left work I was tired of seeing people being promoted because they performed well in an interview but then proved to be all mouth and no action.

I vote Labour, not because I agree with all of their policies but because of the bus analogy. No bus is going to take me right to my front door so I take the one which drops me nearest.

I believe that he believes in a fairer and more equitable society and he will try to achieve it.

As for taxes, I am in quite a comfortable position and if the more comfortable are taxed more I don’t mind. Taxes are only one measure of quality of life, I am interested in where those taxes go. we were already at the highest tax burden since the end of the Second World War with public services on their knees, where were those taxes going? ( rhetorical question in case anyone wanted to reply, I think I know where most of it was going).

Many of my friends have very different politics to me and feel very differently but I don’t mind paying more tax because poorer people can’t, I do object to paying more taxes because the very wealthy won’t. If they tax the billionaires more, and those billionaires leave, good! Let them fuck off, where is the loss?

I am however in despair at the number of people who voted reform, WTAF?

What's wrong with Rayner's voice? I think it's good to have a cabinet that is representative of the different backgrounds in the UK rather than privately educated, middle class men from the south of England.

I couldn't care less about his personality. He needs to put his money where is mouth is and look after THIS country and the people in it - and stop pandering. The people who didn't choose him are still entitled to a leader with integrity and good intentions for their own country.

I just don't see that in him - but I hope to be proven wrong.

Having worked in the CPS when he was the DPP I can say that he is a very good leader and I’m sure he will make an excellent PM for this country.
As for Angela Rayner, I think it is awesome that we have a normal human being as Dep PM after all these useless public school boys.

Only time will tell but I'll be watching them very closely and the limo dick leftie has fucked up already. Choosing the fucking boats over British people. We're already bursting at the seams, hospitals are full, can't get a doctor, and the average Joe is struggling to make ends meet. Food banks are on their knees helping their own as well as everyone else.

He needs to focus on the UK. Give us some hope and faith in him. If his plan is to raise taxes the money must be invested back into the UK - foreign aid needs hugely looked at.

He's an absolute fud. He will destroy this country with his woke fuckery.

Davey, seems sound, not a cunt and the liberal celebration seemed a total laugh. Not going to beat Tories though so can’t currently vote for him

When I was young, I was a staunch Socialist and quite happily believed in the greater good.
Now I'm a single homeowner in my 50s, I don't want my relatively comfortable financial position (that I worked very hard to achieve over the last 30 years, without any of the current advantages like flexible working or WFH) to be eroded.

I am a mortgage free house owner in my sixties, retired in my 50s,very good private pension. I also worked hard but my children and many people of their age could not hope to own a house like mine or retire when I did, earning the equivalent that I did at their age or working as hard as me.

i was born in the sixties, enjoyed a free higher education with full grant, left uni with no debt and got on the housing ladder at 23 when the average house price was a much lower multiple of the average salary. The only thing I did differently to my children was be born 30 years earlier, an accident of birth.

i don’t think people should get something for nothing but this whole idea that I am somehow so special I deserve a better life than others born at a less advantageous time is not something I can get on board with.

I was very lucky.

I like Starmer. I think he’s a decent and intelligent man from a working class family. He didn’t come into politics for the money - he would have earned far more continuing his career as a silk.

I think regardless of who was to take over it won’t get much better straight away, our country is the worst it’s been with so many people struggling after the last 14 years, it’s going to be hard to undo all their mistakes. I just think it’s fair to give Labour a chance, a lot has changed since 2010 unfortunately
