Transatlantic Couples

I'm English and my husband is American. We started dating when he was one a 2 year contract with a hospital over here in London when I started my specialist training and so far he's never gone back.

We've considered moving to the US in the past, as we are a lot closer to his family, but so far the timing just hasn't clicked. I can definitely see the appeal of us going over to America though and I think it'll be on the cards at some point.

That almost looks like I’ve written it! Can relate 100 per cent. British here, married to an American.

We’ve lived in mainland Europe (for my husband’s work) since we married three years ago. We’ve already moved to another country within that time. Totally understand about not having the support network, which is why we want to relocate permanently in the US. As we get older it’s something we are becoming more and more concerned with. I adore my husband to bits, I feel like I don’t ‘need’ anything or anyone else (neither of us are estranged from our families, but the physical distance between us has the same effect) but realistically I know that we need to have friends near us that can help me/us should any emergency happen.

It’s just as well we are preferring to move to the US rather than UK. Under UK immigration laws we cannot live together in the UK, because my husband is the breadwinner. It may be possible somehow, but I’m sure that’s a whole load of extra work, time and expense. We’ve already spent a fortune for my US immigration, and we are amongst the ‘simplest’ of cases!

Thought I'd start a thread for any Transatlantic couples on here? I'm English, met my American husband in the US, and we've been married for 7 years. For a while now I've been thinking about us moving back to the UK for multiple reasons. All of my family and close friends are back in the UK. My husband is estranged from his family and we have no close friends or family around us. It makes me feel so isolated sometimes. As my parents get older I know they won't be able to keep visiting us, and if we ever decide to have children they would be our biggest support network. I'd love to know if other transatlantic couples have any experience with this - did you move to your partners country or vice versa?
