Totally mundane things that excited you as a child!

I love a bit of childhood nostalgia and the other day I saw a meme about how getting your feet measured in Clarks with those funny contraptions was one of the most exciting things to happen in childhood! Totally agree!

Got me thinking what other completely mundane things excited you when young?

Another one of mine was watching raindrops run down a window and seeing them 'race' against each other 😂

Getting to walk her dog when I visited one of my aunties. I went through a phase for a few years where I wanted a dog of my own more than anything but my mum wouldn't get one as we had neither time nor room for it in reality, so whenever I got to see my auntie's dog, who was a gorgeous golden lab and so, so good with kids I'd pretend she was mine. It was like having a friend.

I used to absolutely buzz off getting my eyes tested :p
We'd also go swimming every Friday and my mum used to let us pick a sweet/chocolate each from the vending machine, honestly it was the highlight of my life - I'd tell all my friends every Friday haha.
Also non uniform days used to THRILL me, I'd literally not be able to sleep - and some of the outfits I used to pick LOL 😂

Asda used to have cows/chickens near the milk and eggs sections and you could press a button so they made a sound - used to love this as a little kid haha!

HAHA yes!! The style gods looking down as you sashay your way into school wearing brand new Tammy girl (am I showing my age?)🤣

nothing better than a brand new branded carrier bag to carry your PE kit in. Most girls had Jane Norman or KooKai and I’d die inside if my mum threw me a Tesco bag

Polish! When my mum used to polish the coffee table and unit I just thought that was great. I used to polish the little side table in my bedroom and feel like a proper grown up!

Going to rent a video! Especially at the local "mom & pop" indie store which was much cheaper than Blockbusters, so I could get two or even three tapes at a time if I wanted.

I used to get a huge thrill out of going down to their basement level and looking at all the horror films I was too young to be allowed to watch...the artwork just fascinted me. And somtimes even sneaking upstairs and giggling at the adult selection.

VHS was a horrible format really but for some reason I've always missed it.

Remember those adverts they’d put at the start about fraud and VHS copies etc - I’d always be so scared that someone would knock on the door when we were watching it!

also remember having wild coloured VHS tapes. And forgetting to rewind it at the end of a film and essentially watching the film in reverse as you rewound it

Forgot about those threats 😂 hilarious I was also terrified too!
HMV was also a firm favourite, my mum every now and then would take us and let us buy an album of our choice. I chose Shania Twain ‘Come On Over’ album which to this day I still think is a solid choice!

At least on VHS you could fast-forward those. On DVD/Blu-Ray they are usually unskippable even though you've paid for the product so clearly aren't the intended audience who needs to be forced to watch it.

I remember different coloured tapes! I know I remember seeing some in blue or red.

When the book shop people came to primary school - it was like the best day of my tiny little life at the time.

I used to do this in the car! 😂

My brother and I loved when my mum would hoover the sofa ... because she would take all the cushions off and we would run up the stairs with them and ski down on them! Surprised neither of us ever broke a neck.

The nit nurse at school! I used to love it when they got their pen and combed through my hair, I used to say it was really itchy to get them to do it again. Plus you always went home with a different hair style if your hair was long as they would take your bands out 😃
My mums twin tub washing machine, it was amazing. I used to like watching the water drain from the waste pipe into the sink and the smell of the softener 😊
No surprise to those on the covid thread, but I loved going through the car wash with my dad as a kid. Always got a bit worried the big brush was going to come through the windscreen!
