Sooo Christmas is on the horizon and I’m starting to buy some presents. I’m not particularly struggling with my 2.5 year old as he has interests but does anyone have anything they’ve bought their 2/2.5 year old that they’ve absolutely loved? Maybe like a STEM activity/game or something like that.

I will also have a 10 month old so if there’s any particular toys or activities for this age that your little one has loved then please share!

Essentially trying not to bankrupt myself this year and buy -everything- as I’ve done this two years in a row and it’s just left me repaying credit cards etc for ages and I definitely can’t do that this year even if I wanted to, so any recommendations would be great. Also out of interest, how much do you spend on your Littles?

My 3 year old got the Early Learning Centre ‘Build It Deluxe Set’ for his recent birthday and he absolutely loves it. It’s good because it’s something you can work on together if you want to build one of the examples or they can create their own designs. To be honest he loves anything that he has to build or make himself.

I’d suggest something like a busy board for your youngest - you can get loads but I’ve found with both of my children (I also have a 13 month old) that the less it looks like a kids toy/more householdy bits on the better as it holds their interest more.

I tend to go all out for Christmas presents but I’m trying to restrict myself this year!

Ah lovely, such good ideas - especially the busy board, definitely looking into that now as it will last him ages and he’s into everything already so think it will be well used. Thank you!

The rocking board gets used multiple times a day to sit or lie on to rock on, as a bridge to play with cars or over a train track, sometimes all 3 of them sit on it and my eldest rocks them all together 😊 I bought a smaller cheaper one to start with and wish I’d got the bigger one earlier tbh

We were given the Leap Frog Ice Cream Cart for our 2 year old's birthday and she absolutely loves it! She walks around giving everyone the chocolate ice creams (obviously that's her favourite flavour so therefore it has to be ours too 😂) but you can play different games with it and play with your child and you can also just let your child crack on with it so you can have a cup of tea in peace!

Things like kinetic sand and play doh are always winners in our house, played with by all ages. I often replenish the stock for a birthday/Christmas gift.

Honestly for little ones (under 3) I rarely buy much, especially for babies. A stack of books, a few things as above and that’s about it. And they don’t care at all, plus they get loads from family.

My one year old recently had his first birthday and I used it, just as I used christmas to get clothes.

He got one of those posh ball pits.
A push along/ride on car.
A Chicco toddler Goal which cheers when a goal is scored.
A Vtech Digger.
A toy Dyson hoover since he likes mine so much.
A very small inflatable paddling pool with that slime bath stuff (to be used indoors).
Lots of books!!!
(These include gifts from family and it is safe to say he plays with all)

Christmas wont be an expensive affair he is either getting a toy kitchen or workbench and some mega blocks.

Studio do a personalised dress up rail, with hangers. That, with their favourite hero/princess outfits would make a lovely gift.

My 2 year old had a Learning Resources 123 Build It kit for his birthday in the summer and he plays with it all the time, so thinking of putting another set on his Christmas list.

I don't have kids but my little brother had the leapfrog burger van for his second birthday and loves it even now at four! It is expensive (£90!) but he gets so much play out of it - I am always dragged to "spider man's burger restaurant" and fed plastic burgers 😁 he also has play food and a till so he can turn it into a 'shop' too. The ice cream cart sounds fun, too!

There's some fab ideas. Im struggling with mine. She has most stuff from her sister (all in excellent condition)

I'm getting a large dog crate for my 15m old for Xmas. Something to highly benefit us both 😂

I always buy toys I remember loving as a kid (and normally they are cheap because we didn't have much money) and every single time the nephews and nieces have loved it. Added bonus it upset the inlaws because they bought expensive gifts and the kids wanted to play with my "cheap" ones

Something I got already is this whack-a-mole which I think they will love for some reason it won't let me link it but here's a picture

I also agree with activity boards that have household items on them, this is something you can make yourself or look if there is a local person making them. You get some really beautiful ones

When my daughter was 10 months she loved anything musical, I bought her this xylophone with balls and a hammer (from b&m) and she still loves it to this day! (She’s now 1). I can’t post pictures as I’m a new member but if you type “xylophone with balls and hammer” in google it will come up.

A good gift for your 2.5 year old are pretend cutting fruits, they’re good for learning as well as playing. I have a niece who is 4, a nephew who is 3, another niece who is 1 and my daughter who is 1 and they all love playing with the fruit. I think this gift is a good present for a wide age range. I got mine for £17.99 on amazon, the fruit came in a big basket with cutlery and a small hob.

Personally I don’t buy my daughter gifts as she’s too young to know anyway so I don’t waste my money! She receives gifts from others anyway. On my nieces I spend roughly £50 each, sometimes a little over. We go bigger on the children as the adults don’t get gifts for each other. I would recommend saving as much money as you can before they get older and start liking the more expensive things! If you want to save money but get them gifts you could always make a sensory board for your youngest with stuff you have at home. As for your eldest you could make some games up for him? Just saves buying too many toys and it means you get to spend time playing with them :)
