Thought I would start a thread given that it appears that filming has started on the Netflix series

Still don’t get Ron and to a lesser extent Joyce, Ray Winstone and Julie Walters would have been my choice

Oh it's a Netflix series - interesting! I thought it was going to be a big blockbuster movie directed by Steven Spielberg?? I do know that Richard Osman had said that the actors originally cast were busy with other projects following the Hollywood screenwriters strike and hence, they had to switch up the cast. I do wonder who was originally cast.

Totally agree with you on all points, I glanced this pic yesterday and I particularly don't this Pierce Brosnan is right for Ron.

I really can’t see Pierce as Ron. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.

Has anyone watched this yet? I admit I haven’t read the book but I really didn’t enjoy the film at all

Watched yesterday and really enjoyed it. Yes it was rushed at the end but when you have so much detail in a book it must have been very hard to reduce to a 2 hour film considering the audio book is 12 hours!!

Loved the nod to the Queen (won’t say any more!) and clearly the film was edited post 7th March as LoveDrug by Lady Gaga from her Mayhem album is featured twice.

Richard Osman was on R2 this week and his explanation for Pierce being cast is “if Ron was asked who he wanted to play him in a movie it would be Pierce!”

I said to DH I hope all the actors stay with us to film the remaining books and the one to be published.

I really enjoyed it too!

I love the books though, and already love the characters, so I imagine I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it so much if that wasn’t the case.

Yes, we watched it last night, I admit I struggled with the book, I had never read one of his books before but the movie was decent. And like PP I did like the nod to The Queen.

Gentle movie, hope the cast indeed stay for the follow ups, I need to get reading!!

I enjoyed it but just couldn’t get on board with Pierce as Ron, it should have been Ray Winstone!
