Those who believe less is more?…

I must admit I’m getting really tired of the constant buying/being given new stuff that is shown on Instagram. I do however like Instagram, I like the inspiration, ideas etc.

Are there any good Instagram accounts/ influencers that care about the environment, don’t just buy/get gifted new stuff, but maybe wear clothes they bought three years ago? Repaint an old table rather than buy a new one etc

Surely less is the new excess?

I’m not after charity shop chic, and I’m not adverse to buying something if you need it, but just not all the time...

Do they exist? Am I dreaming?

Jessica Rose Williams. She discusses a lot about living with less.
I find her one of the most obnoxious simple living Instagrammers out there. She's so privileged but never acknowledges it and totally not self-aware at all. Her husband BOUGHT HER ANOTHER HORSE while she was on a "spending ban" and she had all of the floors of her house revarnished only a couple of months after she'd already had them done because she didn't like the colour. What the actual duck.

What does she actually do all day? She doesn't have a job, she calls herself a writer but doesn't post anywhere, and when she does it's such shallow content (she literally wrote a post about white paint, zzz...) I don't get the appeal at all.

That’s ok and that’s your opinion. I like her, not everything she does is to my taste. But as far as not shopping, capsule wardrobe and a quieter lifestyle she ticks the boxes. I didn’t say she was perfect 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think they're in short supply. A Venn diagram of people on Instagram and people not into consumerism would probably show a tiny crossover.

Less really is more in life. I barely buy anything these days and am trying to get rid of all the clutter. My dream is to just have enough to fit in an average sized van.

Back in the 90s when times were harder the BBC wouldn't constantly show property porn during the daytime and had shows like making over old furniture. I liked that.

Thanks, I’ll look into those. I’m surprised there’s not more as it really is fashionable to be a bit more caring...

I know you've asked specifically about IG, but if you're open to other platforms Reddit has some really nice simple/frugal/mindful living communities.

I follow the minimalist life she’s in Aus but is really inspirational. Talks a lot about mental health and minimalism

I like Organised Motherhood too. She does some fantastic Instagram stories that are really helpful in being a little more minimal. Since following her, my mindset has changed a fair bit. Less is definitely more nowadays.

...and notbuyingnew on Instagram. She’s great for inspiration on how to think about your existing wardrobe in new ways.

I'm actually here after searching for JRW as I was sure there must be a thread about her 🤨

Not.so.consumed is amazing (from the states)

Also smallsustainablesteps

There is quite a few once you get digging. Plenty of accounts around the money saving / debt free community too!

Good luck x

Madeleine Olivia and Blue Ollis as well, but they are vegan.
Madeleine Olivia is great. She has a really healthy approach to minimalism (still having and buying things you love etc). Her recipes saved me when I had a terrible flare up of gastritis (I lost so much weight and was scared to eat anything). I made one of her simple/easy meals every day and was better after a few weeks. Her supermarket budget shops are fab too.

I just love how real organised mum keeps it. The Other week her potty training daughter pooped on the floor and before she could pick it up, her dog ate it. Most grammers would not share that. Yes its gross, but it’s real life and helps us all feel better about ourselves.
