Tattle registration

Hi,

Tattle registration is currently turned on.

Please do keep an eye out for bad actors. Sometimes they may reveal themselves in a few hours, others times it may not obvious for months.

It was closed off at the end of 2022 due to issues with too many with bad intentions and to stop users thinking they can break our strict rules then just sign up for a new account.

If you have any concerns please do report a user.

Edit, turned off for the moment. Do report any concerns you have with new posters. Thank you

Slightly off topic but has anyone else suddenly noticed loads of new members popping up all over the threads, going a bit willy nilly 😉
Lots genuinely nice feeling their way into a things but some just like grenades going off, what an odd time to be opening the flood gates or am I imagining it lol

A few days ago tattle allowed new members to join for a short period but I’ve just checked now and the registration option’s gone again.

This is exactly what I've been feeling! I've always felt there's a kind of etiquette on these sort of forums where if you're new to posting on a thread you usually make some kind of introduction, say you've been lurking for a while, you've found the thread really entertaining etc. Many have done this in the last few days and have been well received but there are some who have just burst in (grenade analogy absolutely spot on!) using the 'in jokes' and lingo and it feels a bit strange. I guess they've all been lurking for so long that when registration finally reopened they just felt so familiar with the threads that they got stuck in as if they've been here forever.

I hope this doesn't come across as cliquey, I think it's great to have loads of new members, it's just that over my twenty odd years on these kind of gossip forums it's always been the norm for people to make some kind of introduction when beginning posting.

I've noticed a lot of new people but mostly have said they have read the threads for a long time and now they can finally join so maybe they feel they have been part of Tattle they shouldn't say anything else. I have just seen the other new posters screenshot though saying it shouldn't be mentioned. Nice to see so many new people on here though!

Hi I have recently joined less than a month ago. the new members are seeing this above the box where you can write a comments, I think new members like myself felt we didn’t want to break the rules and get the boot because we have been waiting so long to get on x
They also ask Tattlers not to do posts that can be answered as yes. Hence why I like posts that want a yes answer.

I think all my comments had been removed, I’m sorry I didn’t think I was breaking any rules but I apologize if I did x

to be fair the tattle guidance that pops up is not to say you’ve been waiting ages to join and to only add to the conversation. Not to post and say you’re new etc (I can’t remember it as typically I can’t see it at this point!) I feel weird as a long time lurker. It’s a strange position to be in! It’s awkward to introduce yourself and makes it seem like you think you’re important? I’ve not introduced myself… 🙈

Hi, I did add a photo earlier but I don’t think I should have done that, it was removed. I didn’t do it to cause trouble but to make people aware why new members weren’t introducing themselves x

If it helps I've been here for about 5 years and still feel weird if i lurk on a thread and then one day finally i actually post something 🤦

I do think there's something in a' Hi all yeah I agree that blah blah blah' but if the rule is say nothing and go for it then that's pretty clear, glad I'm not imagining that there were suddenly newbies every where 😂 Welcome .

The grenades will be previously banned and now very snarky members.

Turning on registration the other day as a test was useful. We were not expecting so many to register!

We're now trying a different approach where anyone interested in an account can fill in a form.

Yes we know it sounds pretentious and annoying! We wish this wasn't needed but so many sign up with bad intentions.

Modding a linear forum is a thankless task these days with many used to social media and not understanding that a forum is totally different and mods have to make lots of unpopular decisions to keep threads running smoothly.

Tattle gets held to a ridiculous standard where people are constantly trying to cherry pick a couple of comments out of millions to discredit the site, despite the worst here being so mild in terms of user generated comments on the internet.

Always report if you have a concern with a poster and ignore. Anyone can report a comment even without an account using the takedown procedure.

It's been good to see new posters and read their perspectives on stuff.
I welcome it regardless of whether I agree with them or not as long as it stays within the sites TOS.
So it's a belated thanks from me.

I'm a returning member under a different nom de plume, so some threads are familiar to me but nobody knows who I am. **twirls mustache seductively**

Hi just to say, when I took advantage of the short window when membership was open, I remember admin's message was not to make your first post about how you'd just joined, how long you've been waiting to join, etc. So I took heed of that and jumped straight in. Love Tattle, home from home!

Ah, nobody knew that at the time so we were perplexed! 😅 Tattle is the best x
