I do the majority of my supermarket shopping in Aldi, but always have to go to Tesco on the way home to pick up a few bits that I can't get in Aldi.

Most of my cleaning staff, I get in Poundland/B&M.

Edit: cleaning STUFF. Sadly I don't have any cleaning STAFF

I'm like the opposite of a lot of responses on this thread - love aldi and lidl. It's genuinely all the same stuff as other shops, just in different packaging and much cheaper. I actually like the experience of it, love the fact they scan items quickly. Whenever I go to sainsbury and have to go to a normal checkout I'm always surprised how long it takes when there's only one person in front of me in the queue. And if I buy the same stuff as I would in aldi its usually like a tenner, when it would cost me half that in aldi. Plus all the middle aisle stuff in lidl and aldi is class.

Went to waitrose the other day and they had some good offers on things i wanted so that was great, but the experience was awful- people walking about with zero spacial awareness and all the security starting at me like I'm stealing. I didn't even look dodgy what's that about?

I am a snob when it comes to food Aldi & Lidl I have never shopped in and never will.. whenever I walk past one the smell that comes out knocks me sick just reminds me of spanish supermarkets with the meat hanging from the roof I hate morrisons for meat as it always seems to smell gone off.. I usually get my shopping from sainsburys or M&S at the moment or Asda as my frenchie is picky in what food he likes and I can only get the food he eats from Asda the only meat we are eating is chicken as I am pregnant and like my beef rare and fish is not agreeing with my stomach at the moment..

You do realise that M&S food is exactly the same as Aldi.. it's all the same, comes from the same place, just in different packaging.
I worked previously preparing food for M&S, Aldi, Morrisons and Asda. Meat, ready meals, the lot. All from the same place.

I've also worked for various supermarkets and can say it is all very much the same. I used to be such a snob too until I saw where it comes from and all that. Still a snob with certain things, like beans & ketchup it HAS to be Heinz. Any cheap beans or ketchup make me ill.

I will say Aldi and Asda are my go to because they're close and I can get everything I need. I won't shop at Morrisons after seeing the behind the scenes there, especially the cafe. Save yourselves and avoid Morrisons cafe. Won't say why but honestly I've never seen anything like it!

I've never noticed a smell coming out of Aldi!

Chavsda probably has a smell, or Angry Asda as we call it due to the number of people that would always be fighting and/or menacing in the Old Kent Road and Clapham Junction branches we used to have to go to, when living in London.

This is the problem I also find with Aldi you cant get all of your shopping so you end up going to another shop which is not best during covid. So most of the time I end up shopping at Asda as I can get everything in one go.


I like Morrisons, for me Lidl is the shop I wont shop in I dont like it at all.

At the moment I'm doing the Aldi shop during the day and then going to Tesco for the few remaining bits around 9pm when it's really quiet. Tesco is literally 5 minutes away so it's not too bad. Quick run around for literally 5 or 6 things, through the self scan and home.

I don't like Lidl either. Aldi and Lidl are both around the same distance from me (both only a couple of miles) but I've just never got on with Lidl.
Maybe it's a case of what you're used to though because my neighbour is the complete opposite. Only goes to Lidl are doesn't like Aldi at all.

My weekly ‘big shop’ is Aldi for 80% of it then Tesco for the other stuff I can’t get on the way back. Love treating myself with Clubcard points too, they add up! I do end up getting bits in between from my local co op (excellent yellow sticker mark downs in there sometimes) or I will pop in somewhere else if I’m out and about which I’m obviously not at the moment! I like Lidl too and I’ll go there if I’ve been to the gym as it’s nearby.

Aldi have started doing more and more things I used to have to get elsewhere eg. expanding their herbs and spice range, bigger selection of tinned beans/pulses etc. I just tried their new vegan mince this week for £1.99 and it’s the best one I’ve tried!

Sorry that was long winded... I actually love supermarket shopping, when I was growing up we didn’t have much money and it was always ‘put that back’ so I love being able to get what I want myself. Also because of this reason I’m very price conscious and love a bargain

I like Morrisons the most but currently we are getting Waitrose deliveries/click and collect, purely because they have been the most consistent during lockdowns as I can’t go into supermarkets.

We are also trying to move away from supermarkets for all of our food purchase. Our local market have teamed up to do boxes from lots of different stalls, so we get the likes of basic fruit and veg, meat, fish, bread and cheese from the market delivery box.
Some more veg (and even compost for our allotment) and the rest of our dairy from the milk man.

I do oddly miss going to the supermarket though. During the first lockdown, I was shielding and had a dream about going to the Co-op to buy a sandwich and a bottle of wine. Rock n rolll.

Of Aldi/Lidl, I prefer Lidl (or at least my local one anyway, which is really fancy) - especially the bakery!

I go to Morrison’s only because it’s the closest to me. We don’t have any local butchers or fruit and veg shops but people still cry about Morrison’s on the local Facebook page and moan at us to shop local. I always feel like saying shop where!? I can’t get any essentials in a takeaway or barbers.

Big Lidl fan, I get all my basics and fruit/veg from there. I mainly cook from fresh and don’t buy branded goods generally so it does me fine. Also have a bad habit of being drawn in by the Middle of Lidl and come out with some very random kitchen gadgets and home bits! Probably spend around £20 a week as someone living solo.

I also have an ongoing separate list for the big Sainsbury’s for bits that aren’t stocked in Lidl, but I probably only need to pop in there every other week... and also have a bit of a love affair with their homewares and Tu clothing so I try to limit my visits My local one also gets some cracking yellow sticker bargains, especially on meat, so I stock my freezer that way too.

I did my shop at Asda and surprise surprise there was no anti bac wipes or rice.

My Asda has been ransacked of everything as well! No pasta or eggs didn't have any baby formula for a few days either so had to go to Sainsburys. I hate the panic buying

Ps, I'm the opposite. Heinz beans make me want to puke! I can only eat cheap ones.

Let's just say there were 'living things' crawling around the kitchen and in the food.
They also keep the coffee in a bucket on the floor, perfect for the little critters to crawl into.

They need to start limiting people again I know some shops are.

There was an article in the Guardian a few weeks ago basically talking to people who had stockpiled earlier in the year. One man was saying how he was now using the bottled water he had bought to water his plants! what is wrong with people?!

It does go off very fast, but that may be a good thing. A friend of mine is F&V manager for another supermarket chain and he told me that the reason that Aldi fruit and veg goes off so fast, means that it's probably not sprayed to death with chemicals and pesticides.

Food for though, so to speak.

I used to , but the local butcher closed down last year. He retired and none of his family were interested in taking over. There's another one a bit further away but his prices are ridiculous.

I prefer to shop at lidl and Aldi because of the size of the shops. Having a chronic medical condition it’s harder to shop in a larger supermarket and push a heavy trolley round all those isles. Although I do find Asda better value for money. I go to home bargains once a month usually for toiletries and cleaning bits. Maybe 2/3 times a year go to Iceland to do a bigger freezer stock up.

I am not really picky but husband is a total weirdo who will basically only shop in Tesco (his whole family are the same) so we go there for our big shop then I will get bits and bobs from Asda/Lidl/Aldi of we ever pop out there (not so much in lockdown times off!)

I get my cleaning bits from home bargains or b and m in bulk every couple of months.

If we are doing a treat shop we will pop to m and s or Waitrose for some fancy ready meals or something.

I am obsessed with fizzy Percy pigs so we end up there a lot haha.
