We were sent this from school

My little one has been unwell all day. Temperature, hot to touch, can’t be bothered and keeps pouring at mouth and crying. Hadn’t ate much or drank a lot either. Not sure if k should be too concerned? No rash as of yet, calpol has kicked in and given a second wind but they have slept for hours this afternoon.

Mine has been poorly this weekend too, she's had a temp, headache, sore throat and been sick. Her temp has gone down but still quite tired. I just kept an eye out for her getting worse and a rash

I live abroad in turkey and have done for 4 years, next week my 3 year old and I are due to fly over for Christmas but this has gotten me so anxious, I've not seen my dad for 4 years and he's urging me to cancel (he does get over dramatic about everything) but is he right?? Should I cancel? I've not seen my family in so long and my son hasn't even met most of them this is the first year we've been able to go and now this. F***ing fed up and terrified

I wouldn’t cancel personally. It’s worrying when you read the news but we can’t stop living our lives out of fear of something that may not even affect us. Only you can make that decision ofc.

I wouldnt cancel either, its mainly spreading round schools where theyre all together in one room and your little one wont be going to a school.

Hope your niece gets better soon, my daughters cousin got tonsillitis a lot as a baby so it is possible. As long as she’s got the antibiotics you should see an improvement soon

My son has tonsillitis a week before all this kicked off. I'm not convinced it was tonsillitis to be honest as I looked in his throat before going to out of hours and it looked inflamed but didn't have the telltale spots of pus that comes with tonsillitis. I'm now wondering if it was strep.

Weirdly we got given Phenoxymethylpenicillin whereas I feel like everyone is getting amoxicillin for Strep even though its really similar infection, and also when my son had scarlett fever around 4 years ago he had Phenoxymethylpenicillin for that too.

I got amoxicillin for my daughters ear infection on Monday and got the last bottle from the 3rd chemist I tried!

My friends little boy is poorly, hes only 6 has all the symptoms for Strep A and 111 last night basically werent fussed and said they could get him an appt 20 miles away from home this morning! His parents dont drive and told the doctor this and he didn't seem fussed, just said he needed to be seen.

Theyre trying to get in with their GP today, which is a night mare because they keep closing their econsults!

It’s about all the time. Some years outbreaks just get really bad. Apparently this year there are severe outbreaks of whooping cough in young children. Press are calling it the 100 day cough

Currently sat in an and e with my 4 year old as she had scarlet fever 4 weeks ago which has never cleared and is again showing infection signs but they don’t know where from. Of course she’s running around acting fine 🫠

I'd not heard of it called the 100 day cough before. Googled as my daughter has had a cough for a few weeks

Whooping cough is very distinctive and very obvious. It is nothing like a normal cough and if your child has it, you'll be running to A&E, it's literally like watching your child choke constantly. It's an absolutely dreadful illness and if you're pregnant, or if you or your children haven't been vaccinated against this (the medical name is pertussis) I would strongly urge you to do so. The cases are rising this year, possibly due to lower than usual vaccination rates.
