Yes I do judge as the animals can’t stick up for themselves or do any different. Dogs need more than to be left eight hours a day with a couple of stuffed toys. It’s not usually giving a dog a home, it’s giving a source of income to a dog breeder and then treating the dog like an inanimate object.

Lots of humans put their own needs first and the don’t judge line is a way of shutting down people who stick their neck out and point out that it’s a pretty lonely existence for a lot of social animals. Like the #bekind awfulness.

I do judge that and am allowed to-I also come to tattle for light hearted chat so will stick to other threads now as this one depressed me.
OK, I'll let my vet know. They both work full time and their dogs can't come to work with them every day. They must hate animals to have the audacity to leave them at home and recommend dog walkers and doggy day care to their patients owners. Bastards!

Using doggy day care / dog walkers is a completely different kettle of fish to people who leave there dogs for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. If you work full time and have commuting it could be longer than 8 hours. Its a long time for dogs to have no human contact.

Dog walking / doggy day care are hopefully professionals who know how to mentally stimulate your dog, socialise them etc.

My pup loves doggy day care. Now we WFH we don't use it as much. He goes 1 day as its good for him. I work part time and the other days he isnt at day care I take an extra long lunch to get him out for a good long run. I also pet him the majority of meetings I have 🤣 my whole team ask to see him most days. Talk to him while I work, which is different imo to being left alone.

This is just beautiful. I’d never buy new. I’m still grieving my cat, she was a rescue and I had her for almost 21 years. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be ready again but I have a feeling that any pet I might have next will find and adopt me. When I saw this post yesterday I said to my husband I want the oldest ugliest old thing that no one else wants so we can give it a good home, it’s sad that pets have become an accessory. My in laws were devastated when their last dog died and said they just couldn’t go through it again, although they really missed having a pet. A stray cat adopted them almost 11 years ago now. She was always in their garden so they started feeding her and made a bed for her in the greenhouse, she only started coming in the house a few years ago and now she sleeps on their laps while they watch tv. She runs away if anyone else comes in the house, they love her to bits, I love that they found each other.

I’ve just seen this and I’m absolutely bawling. What a wonderful story. I’m crying now as I’m typing this. The way the cat is nestled against her, with his eyes closed, and his poor leg with the shaved fur (he must have had an operation or a drip)
I hope this beautiful boy lives a few more years, safe, with a warm bed, food, and with someone who loves him. God bless them both ❤😭

I know, it’s so beautiful it made me well up too, if we were ready to get a pet again I’d definitely be happy to adopt an older one that no one else wanted, it’s just sad when they get old and the inevitable happens, not sure if I’ll ever be ready for that again!

I agree with you. More people should adopt older cats ( and dogs ) because it’s heartbreaking to think that they will spend their last months/weeks in a pen, on their own, with no one to love them. I’ve always believed that animals understand much more than we give them credit for. They do suffer from loneliness and anxiety, and they all deserve to be loved and cared for. Thankyou so much for sharing this lovely story ❤
