My sister is 37 & asked last month the reply she got is the NHS no longer fund them for women if no medical reason. That she could use condoms or her partner could go on the waiting list which was 2 years at her hospital Trust.
She is now looking into going private which is around 5k. There are so many things the NHS no longer fund.

I’m in Scotland and the NHS definitely still does it here! Better get my skates on and ask before that changes!

Total sex discrimination saying her fella can go on the waiting list but she can pretty much fuck! Tbh it is something I would consider going private for!

Yes, I was sterilised when my son was 9. I couldn't use oral contraception any more after years of the pill, I kept getting blood pressure problems. I had a coil but only for 2 months, my body was trying to expel it, won't go into details but it wasn't nice. I asked the doc to put me on the list for steri and he was happy to refer me. I think be insistent you want no more kids & don't be fobbed off. Good luck x

If you ladies are adamant you are done, then you need to push for what you want for yourselves. As long as you know it's permanent, and can articulate that at the appointments you'll have to have to get onto the waiting list then go for it. Good luck. I've never regretted my choice. Xx

I'm considering this. I'm mid 30s, two children and definitely done!
Would never make my husband have the snip, so considering sterilisation myself. I've been on contraception in one form or another for the best part of 20 years, other than when I've been pregnant, so feeling like I want to remove all hormones and foreign bodies and have a 28 day cycle again.

I hear you! I still haven’t done anything about it

I hate that in 2022, they are so sexist towards womens wishes, my body, my choice!

Just like i still get people telling me I’ll change my mind about wanting another baby! My daughters nearly 8 I mean, what do I know, it’s only my body

Hi everyone,

I have previously asked to be sterilised but the dr was not keen and said it would be easier for my partner to get the snip.

However, I’m a realist and don’t assume we’ll be together forever and would never want to rob him of having more children in the future (especially considering men remain pretty fertile), I however know I definitely don’t want anymore, 1 and done club and that’s never going to change.

I’m hurtling towards 38 and I can’t use hormonal contraception and I’m getting fed up having a coil, although it doesn’t bother me much, I did have to have it changed recently as it slipped, I’m just over it! I don’t want to use anything!

I’m planning on asking the dr again and not taking no for an answer. I know they suggest the snip or contraception as it’s cheaper, has anyone managed to successfully get one without it being part of a c section?

Anyones experience of the procedure and recovery would be helpful.
