How could you possibly know that she hasn’t quit during/before this pregnancy? That’s pure and utter speculation. Awful that she smoked with Leighton (of which there is proof) but why give out about a hypothetical situation now? Besides an addiction is an addiction and in this day and age people should be more understanding of that. And no, I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life.

I presume he’s just going in today to settle in. Rather than shipping him off, I know lots of mothers of toddlers are concerned their children have missed out on socialising during the pandemic. She may just want him to be around other children of his age and explore some independence. She could change his nappy and clothes more often but her children are clearly her world and she generally doesn’t like to be away from them at all. She also does work, so why on earth wouldn’t she send him to childcare a few times per week.
I can tell you for FACT she still smokes to this day. I don’t have a photo of her smoking I don’t really know what you want as proof but she has never quit in her life and can’t see after 3 pregnancies smoking why this one would be any different. People on this thread have even commented having a smoke with her or lending or a lighter. As others have said her “stalking the neighbours roses” is her going for a smoke first thing in the morning. Addiction or not when you’re putting a child’s life at risk it’s unforgivable. It may also be a factor in her miscarriages and Rex was born early probably as a result of her smoking.

Do you live near her?

Many people do appear to be missing an empathy chip and lack an understanding of addiction. No willing mother wishes to harm their unborn baby, but the brain is complicated.
I fully empathise. With the baby, having such a hostile environment to grow in.

Nursery won’t be in any doubt about who Rex is or what belongs to him will they 🙄

so there @Janedoe123, don’t get Judge Rinder involved because you will not win!!!! 😂😂😂
Well that’s me told, better stand outside her local corner shop waiting to pap her buying cigs so I can prove an anonymous woman on the internet wrong 😂

A little unsure why this woman is so hellbent on defending a woman for smoking while pregnant.

I’m sorry to jump on the smoking gate but honestly, there is no excuse to smoke during pregnancy. I smoked up until I found out I was pregnant, I stopped that day.

this still doesn't answer how you know for a fact though...

My point is you do not actually know that she is smoking. You’re tearing her apart when you have no idea whether or not she has had one cigarette during this pregnancy.

I think it’s going to be a boy. I’ve read that some woman can’t actually carry girls and that might explain her miscarriages so this one might be a boy coz it’s going ok so far? Sorry if I’m talking rubbish or if I have offended anyone or if anyone has read that that isn’t true or whatever it’s just something I’ve read in the past and heard others say. My cousin has also been told this too!
I am a family of all girls. All the woman in my family have had girls, we have had no blood relative males in our family for years, 100 plus. My grandma suffered a later miscarriage, he was in fact a boy. I personally believe there may be some truth to this, maybe something to do with the hormones.

I have seen her smoking over the past year, I can’t say if she was pregnant at the time but it’s well known she’s a smoker and I saw her smoking while pregnant with Rex so can’t see why she would change that habit during this pregnancy.

I absolutely won’t be understanding of anything a parent intentionally does, knowing that it has the potential to harm their child, born or unborn.
My mum smoked whilst pregnant with me, liked to claim that it was a different time then and you didn’t know the dangers. Plausible, if not for the fact I was born in the 80’s, not the 60’s. Love my mum dearly, but I will and do judge her choice to smoke whilst pregnant.

i would also say that if a woman is in the grips of an addiction, it’s possibly not the right time to get pregnant and have children, no?
My mother was a chain smoker who stopped as soon as she knew she was pregnant on her first child. 45 years later she still gets the urge to buy a pack but hasn’t caved.

"I can't see why she would change that habit" so it's a matter of your own opinion, not fact then 😂 You said you knew for a fact.

My son's nursery provide the nappies which is great, so maybe they provide them and she's packed extra, which is odd as she rarely changes his nappy. Won't he be having lunch made by the nursery?

Mine as well, I thought all nursery a provided food
Nurseries, even before covid had to have food health and safety certificates and also provide an assigned person to do the cooking or hire in caterers. So, most nurseries just request a packed lunch to be sent in to save all the effort.

I am pleased she has finally sent Rex to nursery though, if ever there was a child who needed some rules and to be taught boundaries is it Rex.

Nah. I disagree. I've gone through things that would kill the average person. I've never got addicted to anything, because I simply didn't put the cigarette in my mouth, drink the drink or take the drugs. It's a choice. There is absolutely NO excuse for putting a child's life at risk and addiction is a massive drain on NHS services.

Drug addicts get so much help and support. Genuinely disabled people get naff all, because all the support is going to addicts, who made the decision to put stuff in their bodies. It's wrong.

I have empathy for anyone with an addiction or mental illness during pregnancy. I got pregnant (unexpectedly, I was told that I was infertile years before) after 18 years with an ED, I battled to eat 3 healthy meals per day and fuel my body when I felt hungry for my unborn child. I was doing it for the baby and not for me, I maintained this while breastfeeding and then after I stopped, to be honest, I went back on my BS but it wasn’t directly affecting my child.

disclaimer: No, I don’t want a medal nor do I think that I am better than any mother struggling with addiction or mental health issues in pregnancy, I shared to show the place in which my empathy comes from.

However, I do feel that the narrative with “having a couple of cigarettes whilst pregnant is less stressful than quitting” is dangerous because it lessens the severity of potential harm to the baby in some people’s minds. e.g. It cannot be that bad if the doctor says that I can smoke 5 a day.

I know of someone who took this narrative and ran with it. All loving friends, including myself at the time, tried to tell her that she needed to stop but she was adamant that quitting would be more stressful to the baby, that she had smoked in her previous pregnancies and the children were fine. The baby was stillborn. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone and I’m especially not wishing this on Stacey. She may not even be smoking, we haven’t physically seen her.

I just cannot comprehend why anyone would risk it. Yes quitting something that you may use to placate yourself is stressful but the benefits outweigh the risks.
