My partner suffered from quite bad spots in his teenage years, now he is in his 30s and he still suffers from spots on his nose pretty much every day, some days it’s that bad his nose looks bright red. Can anyone suggest anything to try to help it as it really gets him down sometimes?

I’m in my thirties and still have acne too - I feel for him, it can be upsetting. I generally have my acne quite well managed now with my skincare routine (after pushing 20 years of trying everything under the sun!)

What does he currently use on his skin? I’m a big fan of the Body Shop’s tea tree range - their daily solution serum is brilliant, and they also do an overnight mask which is great for if I have a bad breakout

thank you for the tip!
to be honest he doesn’t have much of a routine (I tell him but he doesn’t listen) he used a Clinique face wash and scrub and that’s about it

Ask him to try changing his pillow case every day, especially if he's in a dusty work environment or in traffic pollution etc, It's a small thing but it made a difference to my skin and it doesn't cost much in the scheme of things!

You’re welcome :) Another thing I forgot to say is that it helps to be gentle with acne, as anything too harsh can just irritate and make the redness worse, and that moisturising is important still even if the skin gets oily (again body shop tea tree one is good, I promise I’m not on commission!)

He needs to see his GP, if it’s more than just the odd spot here and there. They can tell if it’s acne or whatever and can prescribe creams/face washes etc as appropriate.

aside from that - there’s loads of skin washes on the market. Get him one with salicylic acid in it, give that a go every day for a few weeks to see if it helps.

My skin isn’t the best at the age of 30, but recently I’ve upped my water intake daily (a gallon, a lot yes but the benefits are great) and my skin has seen a significant change probably get the odd spot once a week of so now whereas before I’d have a new one appear daily.

That’s a hell of a lot of water to drink in a day.... be careful, drinking too much like that can cause serious problems. Your kidneys can only process so much fluid at any given time. There’s no need to be drinking this much.

I’ve started having awful skin in my late 20s it’s ironic because I eat better now drink more water etc yet my skins worse than in my early 20s! I also recommend the body shop tea tree range it’s really good, I have very oily skin and this is the only thing that balances it out for me but at the same time isn’t really stripping of the skin.

If he’s really suffering and the spots are constant and painful then definitely speak to the GP. I phoned and spoke to a nurse then sent photos, I was prescribed a gel and although at first I thought it wasn’t working, six months later I’ve seen a massive improvement. I still get spots but just small random ones before it was my whole chin with big painful spots.

Could he have rosacea? It’s very common for men. I would agree with a good basic routine but also something like azeliac acid can help. I use finecea prescribed by pharmacy2u (sent a pic in) if he doesn’t want to go to GP

also perhaps supplements - burdock root and zinc can be good for the skin
