Yeah I think it is to do with older houses! We moved in in feb too and it’s an old house. It’s mainly our bathroom I’ve seen them and there’s a bit that needs filling so I think it’s that. There’s no window in there so it gets humid. I agree they are foul makes my skin crawl when I see them 🤢
Grim as fuck.
I also found one in our kitchen cupboard
The previous owner wasn’t very tidy but seemed clean enough
Ugh 😑

We live in a flat in a house that was built in 2018 and we still found them... Older houses with more little cracks might have them more often, but just a new house doesn't seem to be the trick.

Are you certain that it's silverfish? We had/have the same problem every once in a while and I was sure it was silverfish until a colleague told me about paper fish. They look very similar and can come to your house with any standard delivery carton.
I had cleaned and cleaned the bathrooms, we put new silicone in and these nasty things kept showing up. after my colleague told me I checked a big carton in which we keep the paper recycling... found five or six of those yucky things in there and threw the carton out immediately. Since then I've found two more, when previously they kept essentially showing up every time you turned on a bathroom light at night.

The last couple of days I’ve discovered we have silverfish 😩 I’ve been itchy ever since. I seen one in the bathroom in the middle of the night then THREE in my bedroom. I’ve kept the light on since but I’m itchy thinking their in my bed and it’s making me not sleep 😅

any advice on how to get rid of them? I’m thinking of just ringing pest control really. We rent, should I contact my landlord and let him know first? Our bathroom has no window and just a fan so it gets really humid in there so that’s why their coming I think

thanks in advance 🙂

We killed them whenever we saw one - nasty, but I didn't want to catch them and bring them outside, they'll probably just come back in
Most often we'd also have them in the bathroom and apparently, they love to sit in any nook and cranny so I cleaned everything as deeply as possible with a tiny brush and also disinfected all drains with baking soda + vinegar and a ton of nearly boiling water. We have a walk-in shower and the drain is long and flat, there probably is indeed room where they could hide, so I wanted to make sure I catch them. That seemed to help already. We also put in silicone at the edge between the floor and wall tiles, because the builders forgot to and the was a rough little edge where they probably lived. Since then we really only saw two more and it's been several months.

I also looked into a product that you could just put in the bathroom, they eat it, return to their hideout, and die - it's called Aeroxon, but I'm not sure whether it#s available in the UK, it was on German Amazon. I didn't get it in the end since it seemed like a last-resort thing if things were really bad and I felt we weren't quite at that stage.

omg 30 a day that’s my worst nightmare 😩 where did you get the gas bomb from? yeah it is and especially cos I’ve seen them at night time it puts the fear in me when I’m sleeping! I think their all over me it’s gross!!
sorry I don’t live in the U.K so the one we used isn’t available there but I’m assuming any bug bomb from a hardware store or Amazon should do the trick?Just don’t make the mistake we did and forget to take your smoke alarm batteries out when they go off 😂😂

My mum and dad used to find these in the bathroom in the mornings and they removed their bath panel and found there was a crack in the wall behind it, and assumed they must have been coming in from there! They sealed it all back up and I don’t think they’ve seen any since. They also re-siliconed all round the bath/sink/windows etc just to ensure any gaps were sealed back up.
I know what you mean though it makes you itch thinking about them being in your home! 🙁

Is it to do with older houses?
we moved into our house in feb this year, it’s grade 2 and old and when I take a pee I see the nasty fuckers running around …only in the en-suite which I’m having ripped out and a new bathroom put in
I wonder if there are cracks in the tiling where they get in
I have no experience or advice but it’s fucking foul and it makes my skin crawl

omg we have a big silverfish problem too.. we were finding like 30 a day last year! We let off 2 gas bombs which targets silverfish and that helped massively. We also taped off any gaps where they may get through. Also we put diatomaceous earth in the corners on the floor and that has helped too! It’s a horrible feeling thinking they are nearby tho!

I had these in an old house I used to rent! Used to see them in the bathroom during the night. I also found one crawling across a plate in the kitchen cupboard… made me feel so ill!!!🤢 That crockery took a trip to the tip when we moved into our new home last year!!

I saw one for the first time ever in my downstairs bathroom recently. I sprayed it with Nippon ant killer and it died. I then sprayed the crack in the skirting that it had come out of. I was worried I'd see more but I haven't seen another one since

We had a small problem also with woodlice and I laid Nippon woodlice killer powder around the crack where I believe they were coming in. Only seen them very occasionally since so it must have worked. I have bought filler too to seal up the crack but have not used it yet.

We had them in our house, they like the damp of a bathroom and can be present if you have a leak which we did! We solved the leak and we might see one every few months now if that, so I would check under the bath etc to make sure you haven't got a damp patch which they are being drawn to.

i’m not entirely sure to be honest, my partner seems pretty certain they are silverfish and they do fit the description. So how did you get rid of them? Do you still get them? I’ve not noticed any in any cartons, just in the bathroom at night when turning the light on and the time I seen 3 in my bedroom

They apparently like flour and anything starchy, maybe they like the kitchen because of that... I'm so sorry that this is happening to you, it really is grim and pretty disgusting.
