Shaven toddlers head...

Ahhhhh, in a long story short, I was giving my 2 year old son a haircut, when mid blending he moved very abruptly resulting in a very obvious, shaven rectangle on his head. (Think Jackass shaving prank..) and unable to cover it, I panicked and have shaven his head. Not completely bald, not even as short as a skinhead, but very short. I’ve been in tears since doing it and although his dad is okay with it, my son isn’t phased and I know it is only hair, upon googling it I’ve found old mums forums posts saying they can’t understand why anyone would shave a child’s head and that it’s cruel. ☹

I just need advice and a bit of logical responses honestly. Would you of done the same? His hair will grow back within a matter of months, if even that long! I didn’t feel cruel, but upon reading some forums, I’m wondering if what I did was cruel? Would he of been better walking around with the bald patch?! 🥲

Aww don't worry about it, it was just an accident. I would've done the same. His hair will grow back so quickly and at least he's not going to be out and about during lockdown. Walking round with a bald patch would probably draw more attention than the shaved head.

Thank you, I thought the same. I think I feel worse because it wasn’t even a choice for him, I just did it. 😩 Wish I’d not touched it but can’t be changed!

Don't worry... things happen, make light of it. If it bothers you when your out pop on a hat on him, its definitely the weather for it! My husband once had my boys hair cut far too short at a barbers and I cried for a bit but within a few days the blunt, harshness faded away!

.. and yes, I'd have done the same as you did.

I bet you will get used to it really quickly once you are over the initial shock. I think everyone has a child hair trauma. One of my boys once took a pair of scissors to their little sister's fringe. The result was...not good! We've had blu-tack in there, chewing gum, etc. The joys of parenting :)

Thank you all! It was definetly reading the passive aggressive mums forums comments that got to me and made me question myself. Even though it wasn’t even my post! 🙄😂 Mum guilt!!!

Not cruel at all. I’m pretty sure my mum had to do the same to my brother after my he shaved all his fringe off the day before school photos 😄

I doubt your boy will be the only one with a diy lockdown haircut. I think most men and boys will have had a clearly “done by mum/partner” hairdo. We did my sons and it was so bad his nursery joked about calling social services. You’ll look back in a few weeks time and laugh. Take photos too (when you’re ready) to show him how bad lockdown really got for us mere mortals. Try not to let it bother you!

My god, I would never have done that. How can you live with yourself? Poor child will be scarred for life.

Only joking. You did what most of us would do. It will be all forgotten in a very short time, and he will thank you when he’s older as he can regale people with the funny story at dinner parties! Make sure you get plenty of pictures that you can give to his best man to get printed of in A3 size for his stag do 🤣

I cut my kids hair last lockdown and they all looked like Lego men with those removable helmet hats. It was brutal. I tried to make up for it by letting them dye their hair (I would never do that under usual circumstances but I think we’d all lost our minds somewhat last year!) because of course we didn’t have any school rules to abide by. They chose red. I bought some cheap non-permanent red hair dye. Their hair turned pink, absolutely not red at all. They all hated me even more and begged me to shave it all off. I reminded them that they had made me promise to never touch their hair again only a few days previous and I am nothing but a woman of my word. Took weeks to fade/grow out. The end. You’re welcome.

Honestly, don’t worry about it, I’d have done the same! And his hair will grow back quickly 😊 Once, my mum accidentally started cutting my dads hair without the guard on the clippers so he walked round for a few weeks with what looked like a runway shaved into the back of his head 😂

If it makes you feel any better at the weekend I asked my husband to trim the very ends of my hair, it’s now just below my ears and very uneven and horrendous 😳
I shaved both my boys hair at the start of the first lockdown on the longest setting, they looked awful but it soon grew back.

Not a mum, but don't worry. Put a hat on him if it bothers you. It will grow back soon 😘

Just think if his hair doesn’t grow back in time, you can just paint his head and he’ll be an Easter egg.
Seriously though, don’t worry we’ve all been there! X

Mine's currently sporting a lockdown home shave too 😅 please don't feel bad, nearly all the boys in my sons class (key worker) have a 'home do' now haha. I've got greys all over the place, some of the girls at work have cut themselves fringes and lop sided bobs 😳. Anything goes while hairdressers are shut, you'll look back and laugh x x

You have absolutely not been cruel. You were doing a good thing by giving him a haircut while in lockdown, there was a little bump in the journey to perfect toddler haircut so you had to fix it. It will grow in and all will be good.

You’ve done what the rest of us would do!
Slightly unrelated but I once was putting hair removal cream on my boyfriends (at the time) back, and a big blob went on the back of his head (he had really short/shaved hair) I knew what I’d don’t but didn’t say anything because he was a crank and the next day he came home in a foul mood cause he was getting skitted at work for his bald patch 😂

Back in lockdown one, my husband gave our son (4 at the time) a buzz cut. He accidentally shaved off one of his sideburns and he looked like Sinead O’Connor. It was a disaster and I was in bits at the time and could’ve killed him, but now we can laugh about it. It’ll grow back ❤

Not a parent yet but I tried to cut my boyfriends hair for him in the first lockdown. I butchered it so badly that he ended up just shaving it all off 😂

It’ll grow back - my boyfriends did. This lockdown he won’t let me near it!
