Just read this…..seems they are very keen to have Kim back as Samantha, I bet they’re offering her all sorts of money 🤣
Personally I don’t think having her back would be the same now that we know just how much they don’t get on in real life. And if I was her I would just think back to that God awful second film and steer well clear of it all!

I agree, won;t be the same without her, but if I was her I wouldn't want to be involved, why help SJP in her career when she has been so mean, I would love to watch it flop if I was Kim (maybe I am a totaly witch lol)

I loved this one too crappy black dress.
omg that Dr was EASILY the best looking man in the whole show  I also loved the episode where she broke up with him to get back with Steve and steve pretended to Miranda that he was really upset she had left him when he was already sleeping with someone else

They should do a Samantha spin off duck the other 3.
This would be brilliant TV, re watching in adulthood she really is the draw / main character of the show & a far better actress as really SJP is just playing herself….. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ETA: not that I watched it at first as a child as that comment implies lol, but as a grown woman with a husband now versus a student!

I’m a serious Sopranos fan and was bitterly disappointed by the film prequel The Many Saints of Newark. I am an absolute AVID SATC fan so I hope they deliver

I don’t know how to say this without sounding bigoted which I’m not at all so pls call me out if it reads poorly -

Really get that the show hasn’t aged well & they’re going to want to tackle this as a new release in 2021. All 3 of the actresses (largely CN, then KD, then least SJP lol) have shared some form of political content in recent years on their instagrams. Pretty sure KD even reshared some of the woke Charlotte memes that were big a few years back?

However these pics I’m seeing of the podcast scenes are filling me with cringe dread and idk if this is problematic but I think it could so very easily go cheesy and OTT with it, in the same way the movies were - even those the other end of the spectrum, with the racism and patronising partnering of the only two current gay characters.

Like is it even possible to shoehorn representation / diversity into a show unashamedly about rich white women & their minor dramas and frivolous consumption? This is the same crisis the real housewives franchises are having now, especially NY funnily enough!

I’m not saying keep it as it is at all, I just don’t want to have to listen to a conversation that sounds like someone’s MC mum doing too much to the point it verges on offensively patronising, you know?? It would be a shame if they reboot it for it to be a bit naff. I think naff is the word?

What do you guys think?

I did get the “see I have a black friend!!” vibe from bits of it - it does seem tokenistic.
I didn’t think it at the time but Jennifer Hudson’s character in the first film was the same really.

I knew as soon as they announced the reboot there would be more people of colour and a transgender/non binary character. Ticking all the PC boxes.

Ok, what I am going to say may be rather controversial and I dont wish to offend anyone. Is it really that awful to have a group of 4 women (or 3 now) that all happen to be white? They may have been a bit...iffy...in what they have said in satc back in the day, but it was of that time. We all have changed and evolved since then, thank god. Speaking for myself, as someone who is late 30s... my closest friends are all white women. I know some black and asian people but they wouldnt be particularly close friends, good friends yes. I am friends with gay men. I dont know anyone trans or non binary. I think this is pretty much the norm- in my workplace, which is VERY multicultural and very multiracial, black people tend to migrate to black people, asians to asians and whites to whites. I

I dont think theres anything hateful there, I think it is just how it tends to go...

This isnt my opinion by the way...the latter part..just an observation...

This could get complicated and derail the thread but people tend to stick to similar demographics in friendship groups because of the tit micro aggressions that come up constantly, like it is definitely safer for BAME people to not put themselves in the firing line for insensitive white ppl at work/socially. The same applies with brown and black folk, like colourism is a thing and I had an Indian friend who regularly upset our mutual black friend through this 😬

Personally I would worry why I had no black friends if I was in a multicultural area (obvs less relevant if you’re in a remote Scottish Ireland with a population of 10) cos it’s a bit of a red flag IMO? Like what about me is making my black colleagues not feel safe enough to have a chat / go out for lunch?

Re SATC - I guess it’s like the female James Bond thing though. Like was it Daniel Craig who said that instead of shoehorning in a woman after the fact we should dedicate time to developing proper woman centred stories? Does the same apply in reverse? Like is it okay to keep these old franchises going as before? Will be interesting to see how far they go with it, I don’t want to have to listen to some tit that sounds like a Sofie Hagen podcast whinging on for hours I really just want to see Big shag his way around his office and Miranda’s life development soz 🤷🏻‍♀️

You have said this all so much better than I did! Yes to this! I think where I work (university) has so many specific social groups it has sort of forced that a bit...it isn't even blacks all together, Asians all together, it's Greeks together, iranians together etc etc. Sure, we will have lunch together in the canteen but in terms of socialising, it's very divided. But as I said, I do think the whole society thing doesn't help as they'll have nights for everything bar us so of course you'll make friends in that group if you're getting pissed together on a society night out. I don't think it's a case of safety or lack there of. Even within our ' white friend group, there is a pull towards mates from a shared location... Irish together, Scots together.its nothing sinister or worth reading into, just shared interests, experience etc.

Anyway... Back to satc indeed! I agree. I don't want a lesson in what's pc, an ideal world or a box ticking exercise, I want designer clothes, silly storylines, who is shagging who and a bit of fun. That's what satc is and always should be!

I am so excited for the new one I spite of the very obvious additions. I hope it's not too cringe

I don't know if you watched gossip girl or the new remake, but I fear that SATC will become like the remake which was just dull and awful

This is the only reason I watch!! It's like 30mins of escapism, no brain work watching, I don't want to be 'woke' in that 30mins I just want to see what shoes Carrie has on or what they are having for brunch.
Of course until everyone can be accepting in this world its important to push issues around gender etc......just not in the middle of satc revamp please.

Its the same with the tv soaps they have to have black, Asian, gay, disabled in the soap. Don't get me wrong I've nothing against any of them but I doubt you'd find them all in one small street like Weatherfield.
