Sending Children To School This Week

It has all become a little heated between two of my friends after they got into a disagreement about sending their children to school this week and I just wondered what is everyone’s opinions.

My children broke up from the Michaelmas term last Friday so I haven’t had to make the choice but I think I would have sent them in if they hadn’t as I’m confident their school is doing as much as they can, so I was just wondering what everyone else is/would do. Help settle an argument!

No argument, everyone makes the choice that’s right for them. My kids are continuing to attend school as I see no reason for them not to.

I am a teacher, and at least half our pupils have decided to stay at home, which has a massive impact on the learning of the other students, as teachers cannot move forward with only 4/5/6 kids in a class.

My little boy finished school today, he had 7 children in his class yesterday and today when usually it's set at 30. I was happy with my decision, my child, my choice. That should be how it goes. I sent him as the school has been amazing following all the rules and I had to work. He's home, happy and safe now and looking forward to the Christmas period.

Are you doing blended learning? We are but I know we can’t actually move forward until the come back as the learning experience won’t be the same so I might as well do it all again with them all in the room.
Saying that I’m off for three days because my daughter’s child minder had a positive case so is shut until Friday.

Well all work is technically on Google classroom, but they aren’t engaging with it and as they are “off” with no reason yet given we can’t say they have to, as they could be ill (obvs they aren’t!) if you see what I mean?

My eldest is at school this week, we’re not seeing anyone over Xmas anyway (we’re a large family and it’s not fair to decide which 3 households can be together and which ones get left out) so doesn’t make sense to keep my daughter home. I think school are doing the best they can, there’s only been two positive cases in the school since they went back in Sept.

As far as I know they’ve had a full class so far this week.

My kids are in school. My reasoning is that they've missed loads this term with self isolating, and at least one of my children has already had it. Plus they want to go in. I think that January will be difficult after the mixing after Christmas so trying to get them in while I can.

Im all for everyone making the decision that suits their family and feel that people should have that choice. But it will annoy me if my child's learning is impacted as a result, not going to lie

I’m not a parent so have no input on this but can I ask those who have taken their children out of school this week - are you worried about your children getting ill, or more the possibility of them catching it and spreading it, or something else? I know there’s lots of factors to consider and there’s no shade from me here whatsoever, I’m genuinely just interested!!

I am exactly the same as you.

My daughter is at school but they’ve decided to close a day early. I see no reason to keep her home, she thrives at school and I’ve got so much to do before the end of term.

People are keeping them off in case someone gets corona in the last week and they have to self isolate over Christmas thereby ruining their plans.

Mine finish on Friday then have 2 weeks off. We both work and so use school for childcare so need them in this week really. They’ve both had 6 months off school, plus one of them has had 2 weeks at home recently as someone at their school had corona. We’ve stayed in most of the year. They’re going in unless sent home.

Sent mine in. If we have to isolate it’ll suck so so bad, but it is what it is. We did debate it, but I reckon the new year will be a shitter for isolating etc, so put my faith in the school and off they all toddled.

I’m sending mine in until school officially breaks up next week. They thrive at school and would miss on all the Christmas activities. All kids in their classes are still going in. We are not seeing family as they don’t stay local to us and we are in different tiers.

My daughter is still in school until Friday, literally just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. I did notice a lot less children were in her class today though.

I did have a phone call from their school today, and I must admit, my heart skipped a beat. 🤣

My sons don’t finish up until next Tuesday. I’m happy for them to go in and have no reason to keep them off earlier when they have missed enough already. They love school and nursery, and both have been very good at keeping things under control and informing us parents throughout. We don’t plan on seeing anyone over Christmas either.

There were less in my daughters class, less then half. Works out well for us, less chance of transmission and they still access their lessons. They have assessments this week too. If we have to self isolate so be it. What will be will be.
