Self assessment - online, how easy is it?

Being self employed for many years I've been sent the SA200 form for years, now everything is going digital I'm considering going my tax return online.

How easy is it? can anyone give me any pointers?

Hi @265 I’ve been doing self assessment online for years. You need to set up your government gateway and then register as self employed. Once I’ve done my accounts (very simple business model as I’m a sole trader and only have ins and outs) you go through each stage and it asks you questions and you just fill in the boxes. At the end you can check it and go back and change anything. If you’ve been self employed for years you obviously already know what you’re allowed to put down as business expenses so I don’t need to tell you that. I usually get my husband to double check it with me to make sure I haven’t done anything stupid.

Thank you, it's helpful, I've self employed for many years but I like the old fashioned way but it's about time I went digital.

I only have a few boxes to fill in thankfully.
