Happy Christmas Skidmark People™️!!!
I have had that book since it came out and have been too disorganised to read itatomichabits. I was abysmal at breaking / changing habits and had bought the book of the same title in yet another attempt to sort my life out. Not a bad book actually, although it was an intensive Zoom session with a behavioural change specialist that finally made everything click in to place.
This is fab, sounds like what I need! The Zoom session was based around self-compassion, which really worked for me because I’ve previously had compassion-focussed therapy, and then builds up really practical elements to help with the inevitable patches where change feels tough. So there was writing down what the real motivation to change was, what I’d say to myself when I was struggling, reminders of things I’ve already achieved and so on.
It was fascinating as well as effective, all very much based upon building up self compassion and self worth so that you’re moving from a positive position to a different positive position, rather than my previous situations of feeling that my now-former habits were examples of me being lazy or slobbish, and that I was somehow moving from being ‘less than’ to being perfect. My very crude summary would be that a person is more likely to sustain change when they’re on their own side, versus someone who’s going into the process feeling negative about themselves.
where do you get it?Happy Christmas! I was going to post a picture of a rat wearing a Christmas hat but I thought that might be too close to the bone for us beefy sewer dwellers! This is the best thread on Tattle
