Creating this thread after discussions on the Sarah Everard thread. A posted told us yesterday about a feature on the iPhone that you can turn on which enables you in an emergency to press the power button 5 times in quick succession and that will put through a call to the police. I have set this up on my phone this morning and think it’s a great feature to have. I just thought maybe we could compile ideas here.

Me and my husband always have the Find My Friends app activated so we can always see where the other person is. I travelled around the country a lot (pre-covid) and in and out of some not so safe areas meeting people I’d never met before for my job so it was handy for him to see where I was and if I’d got to where I was going. However it’s also really useful for if one of us goes for a run, out with our son or anywhere really. We’re not using it to spy on each other but just merely ensure we’re safe - I wouldn’t turn the app off now I’ve used it for a couple years as it gives so much peace of mind. You could set it up with anyone - a parent, a friend, a partner etc but it’s so useful!

You can share your location on google with whoever you choose to - for a limited time or all the time. I like having it on if I'm out exercising knowing my husband can check it to see that I'm not anywhere odd.

I don't know if this is already a thing but, on day or to a visitor attraction I bought a small souvenir pin badge. It looks like an official badge that a police officer would wear although it's not, unless you were actual police you wouldn't know.
It made me think it might be good to use as a deterrent from unwanted attention. Then I thought you could maybe use other kind of similar authority symbols even if you don't work in that career (obv not replica but sort of similar). I think it would be great if it prevents an attack in the first place.

Thanks for this thread. I usually slip my fingers into my key rings and make a fist holding my keys as a knuckleduster on the rare occasion I'm walking home at night. My hand sanitiser aerosol is always within reach too.

I paid for my sister to attend self defense and kick boxing classes.

I also looked up safety alarms for her too.
