So sorry to hear that, @SarahGard83 The feeling of violation is awful, and it must have been so scary. The numb feeling will be shock, it'll pass...in the meantime, don't put too much pressure on yourself, and try not to worry about COVID. You can give everywhere a good wash once the police have been back. xxx

As it's wed is it worth booking somewhere quiet eat out half price tonight.
Hope insurance pay out.
Maybe make a list and look on fb market place to replace.
Perhaps when police been clean and move furniture around and maybe long term decorate or add some new house purchases that might make you feel happier about your home again.

I have family in Scotland who haven’t been able to return to school today as planned as the schools are closed due to flooding and water damage from the weather!
@SarahGard83 I’m so sorry to hear you were burgled, thankful none of you are hurt! I totally understand your Covid fears. Having said that, I’m sure you will feel happier once you’ve been able to clean. I loved fireflies suggestion of rearranging furniture etc to make your home feel like yours again, hope you get over the shock soon.

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope you manage to get some rest today and fill your home with love again.
This happened to us last year. An absolutely horrible experience and I’m glad you’re all safe. We put up CCTV cameras and signs that say “beware of the dog” even though at the time we didn’t have a dog, but it makes burglars think twice about breaking in if they think a dog is there. We also got a ring doorbell so that if someone knocks at the door we don’t recognise, or looks like they’re breaking in (it has motion detection) we have a few mins to lock ourselves in bathroom and phone police - doesn’t get you complete safety but the few extra minutes could be useful.
I hope the next few weeks are okay for you. It’s a really traumatising thing to go through

My husband had to go to work. Someone came to tow his van away to a safe compound as they took the keys but they've given him a hire vehicle. He's had zero sleep as well. I'm home with the kids just sat waiting for the locksmith and the police

A train's derailed near Aberdeen now , this year is like one big disaster movie ...Hopefully no ones badly hurt ...
You all must be exhausted hope they catch the rum ,my neighbour had the same happen her last year just after her mum died they actually went in through her kitchen window and put her dog that was in the kitchen to the back garden they sat on her bed and went through her jewelry and drawers ,She's a single parent it's just her and her daughter so she didn't have much in the way of valuables only her mums rings which they took and threw the rest under her duvet .It had a really bad effect on her mentally she was terrified to stay in the house ,but at the same time afraid to leave in case they came back. These scumbags takeaway more than your belongings ,they take your sense of security too.Get yourself some CCTV that's what see did and an alarm they're cheap enough in the likes of screwfix ,your husband should be able to fit it easy enough if he's an engineer. it'll take time to recover but the police told her they're unlikely to come back xx

They're absolute rum. Ordered a security camera and alerted the neighbours and they're going to check theirs to see if they caught anything. I'm sat in my living room and I'm shaking. Every move makes me jump. I'm a nervous wreck

Nothing worse than knowing someone has been in your house. Have you checked garden or streets nearby to see if anything has been dropped or thrown in gardens?
So sorry to hear about this, absolute guys, hope the police catch them. Definitely get an alarm fitted, the police should be able to give you advice on how you can make your property more secure, not that should to have to.
She was exactly the same it takes time to recover it's awful x Once she got the security put in it made her feel more reassured ,she still has a metal grill on her back window she feels better it's there ..Hopefully your neighbours have picked something up on their CCTV chances are they were in a vehicle if they got away with a lot of stuff they might get the number plate ,,That's the only thing good about the lockdown rum like that were off the streets
My mum was burgled last year and it has really affected her. They took cash and then some really sentimental jewellery. She’s installed cctv and a new front and back doors but still doesn’t feel safe in her own home. Lives on a corner too so probably feels even more exposed. It’s horrible being burgled it’s not even about the things they take but having your private safe space invaded by some stranger who you didn’t give permission to, that’s what stays with people in my (somewhat limited I must admit) experience.
Alton Towers has closed as they have no running water due to the storms over night. They did originally open up for the day despite having no flushing toilets, no hand washing facilities and no fresh water to drink on a hot day like this in the middle of a pandemic, I can’t help but think what the hell were they thinking opening up in the first place. If you can’t flush the toilets you’re ducked, imagine the state they’d be in by the end of the day not to mention the health risks

Forensics just left. They managed to get in through the tiniest downstairs window that wasn't quite on the catch. Stupid mistake which has cost us dearly. They got a great set of prints from the inside of the window where he's climbed in and a partial boot print. Also had a face imprint on the window and ear marks where it would appear he's listened in before entering. Hopefully it's someone known to the police and it'll show a match
Hopefully he'll be on their database and you'll get your stuff back ,although if it's anything like here he'll get off scott free in the courts
To give you a bit of hope - I was burgled a couple of years ago (actually I was working in the garden about 5m from my door, in the middle of the day) so their window of opportunity was minuscule.. I always feel lucky I didn’t come face to face with them like you did, because you don’t know what these people are capable of! Try and think you are lucky that there was no altercation
My burglar took my handbag and used my contactless cards. They got cctv and sent the pictures round the local force, he was identified instantly by multiple people so fingers crossed you get some cctv - I bet they will be known in your area!
Depending on what they took, if there are any cut-throughs, parks or other bits of land near you it is well worth having a walk around, checking bushes and bins etc. My handbag was found untouched by someone a couple of months down the line without a thing missing - id been terrified about fraud the entire time, but all my documents and stuff were there waiting for me.
I am considering getting a ring doorbell though, just to be safe, as my neighbour was burgled during lockdown!!
