I use eBay & it can be good but when you get dishonest buyers it’s a nightmare. I av one now she doesn’t like the item apparently the materials to thin would like a full refund but asked if she could keep the item as well! On principle I said No, you can av a refund once I receive the item back.....still waiting, chances are eBay will close in her favour & she no’s that! eBay really need to to start looking after it’s sellers & not the dishonest buyers out there xx

My parents go boot sales and sell Clothes on eBay they make a few grand a year doing it! They have drawers now where they store clothes out of season ready 😂 it’s brilliant and gives them something to do in retirement

Having a bit of a nightmare selling on eBay atm. Sold something electronic for £350 and the person is claiming it’s faulty so raised a case and requested a return.

I messaged them about it but they ignored all my messages so I sent them a return label and then a week later they’ve messaged me saying they haven’t received the returns label, responded straight away but haven’t heard anything back since. Have a feeling this is going to drag on for a while & I can’t sell anything else in the meantime 😩

I hate to be THAT person but remember if you’re buying to resell (not reselling your personal items) you need to do it on a business account and all above board otherwise the tax man might send you a big bill! I think you don’t pay income tax for the first £1k anyway but look into it

I’ve tried selling a few items on ebay but never have much luck. Even BNWT stuff I’d guess would fetch a few quid went for the lowest bid. It’s just not worth the effort for me. I don’t know how some people are able to make so much money, especially if they’re just selling stuff from around the house

This is what we have done! Bought a bread maker from a car boot for a fiver and sold it for £50. Bought a keyboard off fb for a tenner and sold it for £70! It's easy money and such a buzz haha

What’s even worse is that I’ve read if they never post the item back & eBay closes the case in my favour they can then request a chargeback with their bank & banks usually act in the customers favour. If that happens I’ll lose the money and won’t even get the “broken” item back 😭

I definitely won’t bother selling anything high value on there again!

Yep. Although I don't make as much as you! £130 in 3 months it says I've earned. Worth it though when it's stuff that i don't want and just taking up space in the garage! A lot of what we just sold was old games from our childhoods! Couldn't believe they were still popular.

I'm finding clothes just don't sell on ebay well at all anymore. Or the home bits and bobs. I've had BNWT dresses from ASOS go for 99p!

On the other hand, retro gaming is a brilliant market atm e.g. Old Gameboys. Everyone seems to like a bit of nostalgia.

I like selling on Ebay but their fees and Ebay fees take a fair cut before you've even sorted posting it out. I would like to one day make my own website to cut out the middle man so I can charge less for whatever I see but see more of the fee.

I use ebay as my go to to sell clothes. I make a pile for eBay and a pile for charity shops but they’ve been shut. If eBay clothes don’t sell after a few re-lists, they go to the charity shop.

It does annoy how some people want refunds saying the item didn’t arrive etc, and eBay always takes the buyers side!

Yes I’m a huge fan of £1 selling fees too!

Some times wasters on there which spoil it but 95% of the time the transactions go ahead normally. Well done on the £200! I may sell some stuff tonight now .... 😆

I used it a couple of years ago and made 1k on old clothes! Simply stuff that didn’t fit anymore or style wise I’d gone off
Started again recently and found it’s been harder going as in.. some listings I’ve put for 99p and they’ve ended up selling for that 🤦‍♀️ In the past would of had bidding wars!

I sell quite a bit on eBay, just my own stuff usually when I have a clear out. I always fully describe the item I hate other sellers that don’t do any description at all. I make sure everything is in really good condition, offer standard post prices etc. Somethings sell quick but others just don’t sell at all, I sell mostly Buy Now prices but you always get those cheeky bastards that offer some pathetic low price, make me an offer doesn’t mean half the asking price!
I must admit although I do answer all those annoying questions from people that usually never buy it, sometimes when it’s a really pathetic question I don’t answer. Like recently I was asked ‘Why was I selling and item and did I have the receipt?’ Its eBay..people sell stuff! I couldn’t be bothered to reply!

I always do a big clear out around October and list stuff on eBay, I use the money I make from it to pay towards Christmas 😀 it’s mostly clothes and shoes, the kids clothing bundles and shoes always get a lot of bids!

You can set a minimum amount for offers so people can’t waste your time, though some might take their chances with messaging you (not experienced that yet fortunately)

I’ve sold clothes on eBay for years now, I see it as more of a hobby than a money maker, by the time the items sold and you’ve posted it and eBay have taken their fees I don’t make much, a few pounds at that. Although on the odd occasions some things go for higher, I sold an old Tesco leopard print skirt for £60 and I thought they’re deffo up to something but no they left good feedback and it was fine. I agree with some of the other comments I feel some people are just out to get something for nothing, I only ever sell clothes as I buy a lot too and just have clearouts now and again but I recently sold a coffee machine, worth over £30 but we barely used it, it sold for £6. A few days later the buyer messaged to say it was faulty, I know for a fact it was in total working order when I posted it and I wrapped it pretty safely. I have asked for the item back before I issue a refund but his messages were very arsey and it really annoyed me. I don’t have any bad feedback which he can see and I just think what a faff for him aswell as it’s quite a large item to post. For £6 is it really worth it? When it’s clearly working fine. I’ve bought stuff before that wasn’t right or I had an issue with but I just think well I’ll accept my loss as it’s eBay and I didn’t pay much and that’s kind of the fun of it.

Can someone give an idea on how you handle postage or what you charge for postage etc? I’m happy doing the listing but that postage side has always put me off as I don’t know what I’m doing

I made £300 selling unwanted clothes and shoes , all good condition though as I wouldn't sell anything shabby( people do!) I always post second class to keep cost down for buyers, don't forget you have to consider PayPal fees and eBay fees at the end of the month, but it's worth doing if you don't mind selling some things for next to nothing.
