Probable miscarriage

So I’m 11 weeks pregnant with my first. Had a miscarriage last year at 10 weeks.

Had a bleed in December and was checked out at the hospital and thankfully a heartbeat was found.

I’ve started lightly bleeding this morning (TMI but it’s more brown than red) and I’m so sick of how stressful this all is. I don’t want to go to hospital again as I waited to be seen for 4 hours in December and it’s so stressful with obviously COVID situation. It’s so disheartening waiting for something to happen.

No real reason for my post other than to rant. Is regular bleeding really ever compatible with pregnancy

If its any comfort, I had bleeding between 10 and 12 weeks with my pregnancy and it was okay - they didn't get to the bottom of why but I have my 5 year old here now. Please try not to worry although that is easier said than done. ❤

I bled at 6 weeks and it was the same as what your describing, if it’s brown in colour it’s more than likely old blood. I phoned my gp first and they told me to go to the hospital they took my blood pressure etc and they sent me home again as it wasn’t filling a pad and just told me to keep an eye and if it got any heavier to come back up. Thankfully it stopped and didn’t get any heavier and turned out to be old blood as long as it’s not bright red. I’d maybe phone your midwife and explain

Hey i know how bloody frustrating and upsetting this is.
I bled on and off with all 3 of my children. Once I was hospitalised it was so heavy (bright red blood) but they never really found a reason as to why. So it’s definitely possible to have a healthy baby after bleeding. If you imagine there’s so much going on inside your uterus right now it’s not surprising some old darker blood is coming away. No advice to offer but I sympathise. Maybe ring your midwife for a reassurance scan rather than sitting in A&E waiting hours xx

Hi definitely call the EPU or go to hospital. Better to be safe as it’s unknown - although frustrating to sit in hospital I’m sure it will bring you some comfort. They have red covid areas and I’m sure you will be kept safe so please don’t worry about that.

Hi, I know hospital is really stressful just now but I would still phone them and ask to be checked over, do you have a 12 week scan coming up ? I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and I bled at 8 weeks and 12 weeks, brown and red blood, was scanned at 8 weeks and all was fine and I had my 12 week scan a few days after the next bleed and everything still fine, not had any bleeding since and it was unexplained. Both times I was absolutely certain I was miscarrying because I had one prior to this pregnancy, please get it checked out if you are worried xx

I’m pregnant with my second - didn’t bleed at all with my first but I’ve been in hospital at 6 & 8 weeks with bleeding - (am currently 10wks + 3), mine too was brown.
I had a scan each time and they said there was no bleeding near the baby & said possibly a capillary keeps rupturing or it’s from my cervix (I’ve also had sharp pains in my cervix).

I found ringing the midwife and having her refer me to the hospital sped things up the second time - they had me in within 2 hours of my phonecall & I was there for about 2 hours whilst they scanned/swabbed and checked me.

One thing they did say was to go straight to a&e if I had any bright red blood or sharp pains in/ across my abdomen. Bless you it’s absolutely hideous when it’s Happening to you,I hope yours is non serious and your ok xxx

I bleed in the first trimester but you like it was brown.
Brown blood is old blood which is good.
As long as your aren’t filling a pad that is the main thing.
Can you ring your maternity assessment unit at the hospital? You would be seen straight away as opposed to waiting in a&e (assuming that’s where you went with the length of wait!)
I went to the unit a couple of times and they check everything.
But I also have to add! Do not hold off, don’t feel bad for going, don’t feel scared for going. It’s important for both you and baby that your checked. That’s what they are there for! 💙💗

Do you have an early pregnancy unit at your local hospital?
For many people it turns out fine but unfortunately I had a small amount of brown blood and when they scanned methere was no longer a heart beat. Going off this thread many people have had successful pregnancies and still bled though so that’s a really good sign.
I have to say from my experience the NHS didn’t seem to give a toss about the early stages of pregnancy

I sadly thought the same when I miscarried at 10 weeks, I know it is early but it still can really affect you 🙁

Oh definitely!
People say ‘oh they’re so busy, they don’t have time’ which is completely unacceptable in my opinion.

I've had miscarriages... My most recent was at 12 weeks. I'd personally say wait it out at home - going to the hospital (in my opinion) won't really help in any way - but if you are in pain or if you are worried then go of course. Bleeding can be normal so I hope it's nothing and you are ok. Sending lots of love and let us know how you are X

I’m currently going through an early loss at the moment,I only found out I was pregnant on Friday started bleeding on Saturday. Ive had an internal scan today which showed nothing, the hospital said it’s either to early for anything to be seen or iv’e suffered an early miscarriage. I’m trying to hold on for hope but feeling so overwhelmed by it all.
I really hope everything is okay with your pregnancy❤🙌xxxx

I had a lot of bleeding with my first. They’re 4 years old now. I’m sorry that’s happening to you! Fingers crossed it’s just some delayed implantation bleeding. Can you call your Early Pregnancy Unit and ask for a scan? If you haven’t already had a scan I find that if you say you have pain on one side they get you in pretty fast.

So sorry to hear this. Bleeding in pregnancy is always really scary. It is very positive that you have seen a heartbeat on a previous scan though. I’d strongly recommend calling ÉPAU if it continues - do you have your dating scan soon?

I do agree with what’s been previously said that my experience of bleeding in early pregnancy was that they didn’t care - I miscarried at 6 weeks and it was in the first lockdown, just told to call back if I got severe pain not managed by painkillers or if I was soaking a pad every hour (had no idea if it was a miscarriage or not at this point, was not offered a scan or any follow up). However given you are 11 weeks and you have previously seen a heartbeat I think you may have a different reaction. Xxxx

So sorry to hear about your previous loss, it’s awful ❤
I completely agree with you about feeling that way about bleeding in early pregnancy. I went to my local EPU today for scan and I felt they completely dismissed me and told me to just test again in 1 week. Never repeated any blood work to even monitor my levels! I left feeling like complete tit and like I was a hindrance to them! X

Thank you everyone. The bleeding is still there but now only a few drops. Will see what tomorrow brings as my previous miscarriage started this way.

I have to say that when I went for a scan in December at 6 weeks, I was treated really well. The staff were lovely and gave my free scan photos showing the tiny heartbeat.

I’m worried because my previous miscarriage was horrific and I ended up losing consciousness at home. Emergency surgery, 3 blood transfusions and 4 days in hospital at the height of the first lockdown has left me feeling particularly anxious about what could happen in the next few hours

Yeah it’s really tough. To be honest sitting at home for 9 days bleeding and not knowing whether I was miscarrying or not was almost worse than the actual miscarriage because I was constantly googling and trying to find any possible reason that could explain it that wasn’t a miscarriage, even when I was passing products I was still in denial. It was bleeping awful and I feel like some of that distress could have been appeased by knowing what was happening. I paid for a private scan after 9 days as I couldn’t take it anymore. I’ve thought about writing a letter to them but I haven’t bothered, I know the sort of generic reply I’ll get so I don’t see the point.
