Preventing clothes going mouldy in storage?

I've never had a problem of clothes going mouldy in storage! Is this a common thing?

I live in an old house that has no wall insulation so it’s prone to cold rooms. It’s a very common issue but the solutions are always vac bags I think I’ll just leave them in the spare room with a window open.

OP I recommend getting a dehumidifier if you have a damp room, silica gel, a moisture absorber. The lot.
Also ventilate the room as much as possible, keep it warm and dry. I know damp and mould is a real pain!

Thanks, it’s so annoying! I’ve had surveyors out who insist it’s not damp, I don’t dry clothes indoors and am always airing etc but it’s an old brick property with no one either side so kind of just have to deal with it. I’ll have another look on Amazon for silica gel

Even if the vac bags aren’t deflated having them zipped shut should prevent any moisture getting in. We store all the kids’ clothes in vac bags (not vacced, just sealed) in our attic and have never had an issue. Similarly if in under bed storage boxes with well fitted lids they should be fine.

Not sure if this warrants its own thread but I’ve always used vac bags and no matter how much I spend on them they always have an issue with the zip/they’ll inflate within weeks etc. Branded ones, £30 ones, the lot! I really don’t want to bother with them any more.

Anyway, I’ve put all my summer clothes and stuff I’m not wearing into underbed plastic storage boxes. Is there anything decent you can put in to help with mould/mildew? Like an XL silica gel. I’ve had a look on Amazon but a lot were hanging types for wardrobes

Id like to know the answer to this too! I've tried all the different vac bags and I agree that they were work 100%. So annoying

If your room is properly heated and ventilated I don’t image the clothes would go mouldy.....? If they are all properly dry when you box them up, they should be fine. You could just throw in a few silica gel packets into the box if you are really concerned but I’ve never heard of clothes going mouldy when being kept in a bedroom like this.

Oh no that's rubbish, but with the kind of property it is damp and mould are pretty common.
Yeah you'll have to deal with it but just do all you can to suck the moisture out the air, the silica gels are really good. Kept the inside of my wardbrobe dry and it's a bit of a mess in there at the moment.

Our flat gets terrible damp as it has 0 ventilation other than windows which don't help unfortunately. It is a thing, not sure how common it is but in places like mine it's an unfortunate reality.
