Pre-school boosters

Pre school were actually fine. I made sure I had special plasters and explained what they were for. (She loves an Elsa plaster but paw patrol also acceptable.) I didn’t tell her til we got in and I got a funny look from the nurse as she then told her with me there but honestly it wasn’t worth the fight before hand as she thinks about things that are going to happen a lot. She didn’t actually cry, I made sure she didn’t see it happening and plasters fixed it. Also bravery buttons. (Cadbury)

All mine have been fine. No tears, give them a little treat afterwards. I told them all they were going to the doctors but not what for. Don't think they would've understood anyway as they wouldn't have remembered any earlier jabs, It's all over in seconds.

Same situation here. I plan to tell my child. Just make sure to put a loose short sleeved tshirt on and bring treats for afterwards

My little one is due to have his pre-school boosters this week and I’m unsure on how to approach the situation. Keen to hear your experiences.

I was planning on telling him before we leave, but my partner thinks I shouldn’t tell him at all and make out that we are just going for a check up.

What did you do? Also, how did your little one react? Was it as bad as I imagine it’s going to be?!

Any advice welcome!

I told both of mine first, I would want prewarning so I treat my children the same, I just promised a trip to the shop afterwards. my children both have the flu injection rather than spray each year too and just crack on with it. kids are amazing and resilient

I think it depends on the child, for example I kept talking with my son the week before about going to the doctors and seeing the nurse lady and that was going to give him injections.. he has always liked to know in advance where we are going/what’s going to happen (I think maybe because I’m like that too lol) so for him it allowed him to get used to the idea. We watched a couple of CBeebies programmes (Bing vaccination episode and also Get Well Soon did an episode about them ) and i said he’d get a sticker after and then he could go to the shop and choose a magazine he was fine, cried for about a minute but by time the nurse let him choose a sticker he was over the tears! X

I told my son that he needed some injections and they might hurt a little bit but he would be ok. We watched the episode of bing where he goes for his vaccination on YouTube and I bought him some treats for when we came out. The nurse was lovely with him and gave him some stickers at the end which made him completely forget about it
