Hello!

Finally plucked up the courage to sign up for Pilates mat work classes this week after dipping in and out for years but never fully committing!

I have a lot of weakness in my glutes/ core and am as stiff as a bored, so am hoping this will help, I have done lots of YouTube videos in the past, but find real life lessons so much harder 😭

Any fellow Pilates enthusiasts around? And any tips for a beginner? (Or just general strengthening advice!) ❤

No tips, but this is something that I want to start and commit to too, I am approaching 50 and keen to keep as much muscle and be as supple as I can. Like you I also find YouTube etc easier than a class, but think I make more effort when in a class

Yeah I think it's far more easier to 'cheat' when doing a YouTube and not get the full benefit. I thought I was pretty good at some of the more basic moves like clamshells and bridges, but after doing them with a teacher I was doing them incorrectly and getting them right is bloody hard! 😭

I absolutely love Pilates and I’ve found it so helpful for posture, strength, flexibility etc.! I think my main tip would be don’t sacrifice correct form for higher reps or more ‘advanced’ moves, I’ve always paid for it when I’ve done that and it’s just not worth it. Good luck!

Thanks! I've got postural issues, so I find keeping good form really hard, often I want to rush it so I can get to the fatigue point quicker! 😅
