Yeah, he's great now thankfully! For a while they did think he was going to need to have a cat asthma inhaler type device for the rest of his life, but thankfully not. It cleared up completely. was before our pandemic so when Covid-19 kicked off I thought it had initially come from cats as that's the only time I'd heard of it!

I've had my own awful experience of the feline coronavirus. Cats can normally carry the coronavirus, but in some cats (usually kittens) it mutates into an awful disease called FIP. There was no cure for it 5 years ago (the wet form at least.. the dry form, I believe, is more hopeful), and we lost one of our kittens 6 weeks after we got him. His sister lasted to about a year old before she succumbed too. They both had the disease when they were still with the breeder, but it is a disease which doesn't show itself, until it has progressed (it is also no fault of the breeder.. she did stop breeding Ragdolls once she knew the disease was in her cattery). Back then, I was definitely glad we had insurance, as we would have had to fork out a lot after having had the first kitten for only 6 weeks! It was a very sad time to lose those kittens. The cats I have now are actually their half brothers.

It's horrible isn't it? Thing is he is and always has been up to date on his jabs so the vet isn't entirely sure how he contracted it but said it can happen in rare circumstances. Thankfully because he was vaccinated, it wasn't as bad as it could have been as it made it a more mild version. But he became very ill very quickly. First sign was his inner eyelids started to show badly, called the vets and they said to keep an eye on it (no pun intended) and call them if it hadn't improved within 48 hours. By the next morning his breathing was rapid and he didn't want to move. He was at the vets for treatment within half hour. X-Rays showed he had advanced pneumonia and I felt like such a bad Mum but the vet explains it's rapid and can go from nothing to full blown pneumonia in a few hours. I was so worried about him for weeks. Couldn't stop worrying and crying. Looking at him now, you'd never know. As I said because he was vaccinated it didn't kill him and meant he fully recovered.

Soooooo I’m currently sat outside the emergency vet, as our kitten decided to eat the elastic from a toy really really hoping our insurance will cover it! Video vet said get her there ASAP and now i feel sick with worry about her. She was so distressed the poor little thing

If you haven’t, get insurance. Quick follow up visit to the vet this morning has ended up with £3,500 of investigation and surgery


Not looking forward to next year’s renewal, I am so bloody happy we have insurance. Just keeping everything crossed that they agree to pay out

We’re with animal friends for my dog. He had pancreatitis as a puppy and thankfully they paid out as it was about £900 altogether. However now I feel a bit stuck with them as it would be a pre-existing condition if he ever got it again.
